Look at Google Maps of the world: Almost all the Islamic regions are desert. Is this coincidence?

Could this be a coincidence? If so it's one huge coincidence. Check it out:

plus Malaysia and Brunei which are both Islamic but definitely not deserts

For non-Islamic deserts add in the Atacama, the Mojave and all the other deserts in the US.

The five countries with the largest Muslim populations are not deserts, at least not mostly.

Also, it's not coincidence: Islam started in the Arabian Peninsula and its earliest conquests and most secure acquisitions were in that region.

Did you know Frank that 40% of the world's Muslim population lives in South-East Asia where it's a bit wet? Is this a coincidence? Check it out.

You need to put away your stereotypical image of Islam. Islam is not Arabs on camels marching across endless sand dunes.

But have they made you reconsider whatever point you were trying to make in your OP?

A little but the vast majority of Islamic countries are desert. I wouldn't call Indonesia a traditional Islamic country either. I was talking about countries that have been Islamic for a very long time. Australia is mostly desert but not all like almost all Islamic countries. Of course it's just an observation.

The main thing against this observation is that Islam started in the middle east which is largely desert.

I think we all agree that Islam started on the Arabian peninsula, which is largely desert.

According to Pew Research (Muslim Population of Indonesia), Indonesia is the nation with the largest number of Muslims, at 205 million. For comparison, the entire population of Saudi Arabia is only 32 million (Saudi Arabia - Wikipedia).

Are you just pointing out that Islam spread to Arabia's neighbors before it spread worldwide, or are you trying to make a larger point?

Good counterindicators. Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country, and the country has a tropical wet climate. Also, the state of California has a desert, and the people there are not majority Muslim as well. :) I was going to mention the Atacama desert in Chile. As of 2011, Chile is home to < 4000 Muslims (< 0.1% of the Chilean population).

I find the correlation of non-arable land and Islamic countries interesting, that's all. Almost as if they were cursed by God for warring against the Jews. I'm not considering Indonesia as it's not very staunchly Muslim and hasn't been Muslim for very long, like Malaysia and Brunei. Also remember that Bali is almost all Hindu though Bali is a small part of the whole of Indonesia.

I was talking about countries that have basically no arable land. I should have been more clear in the original post.

Islam got its start in 610AD (Mahomed's) 40th birthday). Since Islam could not have 'warred against the Jews' prior to its existence how could it be cursed by God, in its beginnings, for 'warring against the Jews'. Islamic tensions with Jews are hardly a feature of Islamic history until we get to more modern times.

There is also the issue of 'if God was cursing Muslims by denying them arable land' why was he so selective about cursing only a few Middle Eastern Muslims? Islam was also known for attacking Christian states (and vice versa) - why no punishment for this?

It's an interesting premise but it doesn't appear to stand up to examination. Can I also suggest you dip into a little Islamic history including the spread of the religion.

One final note: your post is in the wrong Forum since it has no connection to Physical & Life Sciences.

That land was non-arable a long time before the Islam religion even existed.

What forum should it have been in? I always have problems figuring out where to post things here.

"Islamic tensions with Jews are hardly a feature of Islamic history until we get to more modern times."

Yet the Quran is filled with anti Jewish sentiment. It was obvious Mohammed hated Jews. That's why he made up his silly religion this way. He also must have been a major social loser who couldn't meet women so he made up a religion that gave the man total control over the woman in their society. You can tell a lot of an author by how they write. He also must have been rather dim mentally because so much of the Muslim religion makes no sense at all. It's like it was dreamed up by a teenager; an exceptionally dumb teenager. The more you learn about Islam the worse it gets. When you see them discuss anything with non Muslims they constantly talk over them dominating the conversation. Why? Because that's how they treat their family and especially the females in their family, starting with their wife (or wives as many have multiple wives as that's just fine in Islam). The religion of war.

"There is also the issue of 'if God was cursing Muslims by denying them arable land' why was he so selective about cursing only a few Middle Eastern Muslims?

When I look at the countries that have been Muslim for a long time I see almost nothing but non-arable land. Not sure what you're talking about.

"Islam was also known for attacking Christian states (and vice versa) - why no punishment for this?"

I would say having a country with almost no arable land is a fairly severe punishment. Not sure if that was what you meant to say though. It looks like you're separating "Muslim" from "Islam". Not sure.
