One of the upsetting things I learned as head of a Christian school is how the images of Jesus we grew up with don't represent what the Savior would have looked like.

The Jews in my family have light brown hair and bright blue eyes. They didn't convert, Judaism for them goes back generation after generation.

I like the one that looks like the Jesus that's depicted in all of the pics that used to hang on the wall at my Grandmas house when I was a little kid...

Thank you for bringing this up. As an American Christian it feels almost heretical to use images of "white" Jesus.
I understand that during the early to middle ages and renaissance having Jesus and the holy family in European trappings may have been helpful, but in the modern era it has caused many western Christians to "slip."

Does it actually matter what he looked like?

I don't imagine Jesus coming back and being upset with his depiction. I don't imagine him thinking highly of any Christians who focus on the issue either.

I wonder how many white Europeans over the centuries would have failed to embrace the faith if Jesus looked like, say, a Chinese man, and depicted as such. If souls miss out on salvation, I think that would matter to Christians.

I think it could have been a stumbling block to many. Hopefully we're in the process of getting over all that, as a species.

You're aware many asians depict Jesus as asian...right?

The image I searched to find that picture was "Koreans Jesus".

I think you're overly optimistic. "Race realism" or the idea that race not only matters but is a central aspect of someone's identity is making a big comeback on the left.

There are 99 things in my life that I allow to annoy me, but an old picture of a white Jesus isn't one of them. I've seen images of Jesus from other cultures reflecting the image of those cultures.

But, I'll confess, it does annoy me a bit to see a modern image of Jesus with blond hair and blue eyes, not even attempting to look a little "average Middle Eastern."

We don't have any images of a "Jesus" displayed in our house. I don't see a reason to display or promulgate anything I know must be inaccurate, and I know that any artist's concept of Jesus must be inaccurate.

My hair was very similar around 1970. Now I have more on my eyebrows than my head...
