On Monday, 46 former national security officials signed a letter urging Capitol Hill to rubber stamp the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). The same law was abused by deep-state FBI agents to surveil members of Trump’s campaign. The more than three dozen former national security officials who signed the letter invoked the fentanyl crisis and overseas turmoil to make their case for unconstitutional surveillance.

“As you well know, our nation is under significant threat today with wars in Europe and the Middle East, a potential conflict with China in the Indo-Pacific, and the deadly flow of fentanyl across our southern border,” they wrote. “In these circumstances, we cannot hamstring the U.S. Intelligence Community either by failing to renew Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act or by limiting it in ways that would make it difficult for the government to protect Americans.”

Several Trump campaign members, notably Manafort, were serious lawbreakers.

They were not innocent citizens. They were lawbreakers...

You are suggesting we should not have been suspicious?

The 4th Amendment to the Constitution is still the law of the land. Therefore, judges shouldn't just rubber stamp requests made to them under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Isn't it odd that maga republicans recently voted to extend the section 702 surveillance program then?

If Mr Trump doesn't want to be surveilled, perhaps he would be wise not to use suspects working abroad (Carter Page) and who may be under investigation themselves.

The FISA Act wasn't actually abused by deep state FBI agents. Research shows the FBI committed widespread errors across a large sample of FISA applications. They became sloppy at handling the paperwork. These errors occurred in the context of Title I FISA warrant applications and not section 702 implementation.

4 or 46? 51?

Most the links in the article just link back to the Federalist - not to outside citations.
Looking at both letters it appears that 5 (at least according to my count, but one person in either direction isn't something I'm going to ding them for) people who signed the letter about the laptop also signed this letter. I guess the implication is that those people agreeing with this letter means it's inherently bad.
