Anti religious freedom activist vandalises religious icon. Is religion under threat in America?

Former congressional candidate and immigratnt from Mississippi Michael Cassidy was charged with frenzied attack on the religious freedoms of Iowans in Iowa.

Iowa’s revered Satanic Temple of Iowa's display depicting Baphomet at the Iowa State Capitol in Iowa was attacked by Cassidy who soon took to racist cess pool social media X to defend his aggressive behaviour against people of faith in Iowa.

Cassidy who holds a liberal arts masters degree and advocate of socialised medicine refused to respond in a shrill response to the Desmoines Register’s requests for comment shrieking “…………”

Are religious freedoms under attack from liberal socialists? Or is this a lone wolf acting alone?

As yet it it unknown whether Cassidy has been seen in drag, being affectionate to a male, riding a bicycle or being a person of colour.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say maybe.

in any jurisdiction.

But no, id say "under attack" is an exaggeration on
the level of a fly biting a cow.

So a statue (that was put there for the explicit purpose of angering Christians) ended up angering Christians?, I'm shocked.

For anyone who's not familiar with the Satanic Temple:

They don't actually believe in a deity, they were formed with the mission of using irony, satire, and a bit of "productive trolling" in order to get religious people to reevaluate their positions on church/state entanglement.

And they've done it quite well in a lot of cases.

For instance, when there was a principal wanting to allow school sanctioned religious clubs (centered around Christianity), the ST did the:
"Oh, okay, great, so religious clubs are allowed here...here's our application to use to the school facilities for our Satanism club"

To which the principal reevaluated and said "hmmm... On second thought, no I guess we're not going to have any religious clubs of any kind at the school if means they will be able to have one too"

Mission accomplished.

So, I see what they were trying to do here...but the backlash against it was quite predictable. (much like when those people did the "Draw Muhammed" contest, and it ended with this)

...I guess when it comes to using irony and goading to make a larger statement about something or push for changes, it all depends on how volatile of a situation one wants to risk creating in pursuit of their goals.

This one just ended with an inanimate object getting destroyed (thankfully), but like the situation that happened at the Curtis Culwell Center...these sort of approaches do run the slight risk of some things seriously going off the rails. -especially when you're talking about something people take as seriously as their religion of choice.

Vandalism is a crime. There are many "works of art" that are anti-christian and are repugnant to people of faith ... but that does not justify a person breaking laws ... whether vandalizing a satanic representation or a christian one.

Religious freedoms are under attack and we are told by Jesus it would be that way.

Going to get worse as time goes on.

Mandatory minimums for mob destruction of statues, infrastructure, and houses of worship - automatic 10 years in jail plus the cost of repair

Technically it wasn't a mob...but yes, the irony isn't lost.

Just for fun, I wonder what the reactions would be if a person vandalized the same display, but with pink hair dye and a "Just Stop Oil" t-shirt.

I'm betting 3/4 of the people who have strong opinions about this would switch sides on it.

Just based on observations from the past 5 years, one thing's become pretty apparent. People have gotten too comfortable with the concepts of rule bending and ignoring of laws if it's something where people are of the position that "I think their anger and defiance is righteous, therefore what they're doing is justifiable"

How do you want to measure it? It was definitely a thing in the colonies in the 1600’s - maybe earlier but I’m less familiar with what the spanish did to the natives. One could argue that that’s too early since America didn’t exist then, but Jews and Catholics were suspect at least until the 60’s.

How is it that people are acting offended and outraged that this happened? If it was Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, etc sure. But this display was put up for the sole purpose of making something like this happen. The people who put it up are thrilled, not angry.
