  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At about 14:03, the video shows a side view of an ice core's striations, but there's no relative perspective to judge how wide they are. Could someone tell me, are they about an inch, or about a millimeter, or what?

I have no clue. All this is new to me but I thought it interesting. I never knew you could get that kind of info from ice.

I've heard they get info from ice, but never really heard the details. Why I'm curious about the striation widths is that he says each striation represents a year, and we have info for the last 800,000 years. From the video it looks to me like the striations are about an inch wide, which would mean we've taken samples 12 and a half miles down into Antarctica, but even it it's more of a close-up shot than I think, if we go with the millimeter length, that would be a core sample which is a half a mile long. Maybe they've done that, I don't know.
