  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." Eph 3

This isn't about ancestor worship.

Some believe Apostle Paul wrote Ephesians about AD 60-61. This prayer for us to glorify Jesus continues. It's encouraging.

A fellow believer presented this idea recently.. By speaking Scripture, His Word can impact more than the individual or group we have in mind while praying..

We know distance isn't a factor by the Mattew 5:5-13 account of Jesus with the centurion.

Concerning this,, there are numerous Scriptures such as:

""The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple." Psa 19:7 including Pray without ceasing. I Thess 5:17

The Lord's Prayer, His will be done on earth. Matt 6

"I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Jerusalem, who will never hold their peace day or night; you who [are His servants and by your prayers] put the Lord in remembrance [of His promises], keep not silence," Isa 62:6

'What if some did not believe and were without faith? Does their lack of faith and their faithlessness nullify and make ineffective and void the faithfulness of God and His fidelity [to His Word]? 4 By no means! Let God be found true ..." Rom 3

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Pro 18:21

What do you think?

Sure it's a great prayer. Notice it's a prayer which shows us how to pray for fellow believers. We many times pray such frivolous prayers for believers not really saying much but look at this prayer here.....it breaks down exactly what your fellow believer needs.

True prayer, the highest form possible, is spiritual prayer, whereby we go beyond the limitations of our thoughts and speak by our human spirit.

It is the absolute highest form of prayer that we can have.

Spiritual prayer also involves activity, such as hand positions. Most times that I begin praying by the gift of tongues (which is a good part of each day) I also raise my hand with my palms upward. Sometimes I place my left palm upon my heart and raise my right hand while praying this way. The Holy Spirit has always led me into doing this during prayer, and there is a blessing from it.

Derek Prince who knew Greek and Hebrew studied each word that was about worshipping God & concluded that it involved movement. Can't remember which teaching for resource.

In relationship to prayers being extended beyond who is in our prayers -

"Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching," John 17:20

Realizing these words were spoken by Jesus.

The Holy Spirit has always utilized my hands in prayer and worship. I view it as attributed to the leading of The Holy Spirit.

Spiritual prayer moves us beyond ourselves and into GOD's will. We are always praying for things coming our way, but can be praying for those that have yet to know Jesus, and helping those that do.

"Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all." Eph 1

9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and [c]conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Col 1

Interesting how these prayers are asking for the spirit of the Lord to be active in fellow believers' lives.

"And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;" (Isa 11:2).

In Hebrew, wisdom meanings include God's creativity, understanding is how to connect the dots, counsel- is realizing God's heart -guidance, direction and might - is power, force, strength while knowledge - is careful examination to see God's perspective, and the fear of The Lord is awe, respect, reverence for God. (Exo 31 and 28).

"For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."Matt 7:

Sometimes when we look at others, we consider their character compared to when it's us, we consider the circumstances. We don't even use the same yardstick.

Asking the Lord to help me with my mouth and thought life.

"Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?” Mal 2;10

Since each person is uniquely created by you, Lord, there must be so much love in your eyes when you look at the same people that I look down on because they.... Please forgive me.

"And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel." (Matt 15:30, 31)

Lord, help us not to miss this type of opportunity to glory you.

"And [the angel] said to me, O Daniel, you greatly beloved man, understand the words that I speak to you and stand upright, for to you I am now sent. And while he was saying this word to me, I stood up trembling.

12 Then he said to me, Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your mind and heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come as a consequence of [and in response to] your words.

13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief [of the celestial] princes, came to help me, for I remained there with the kings of Persia.

14 Now I have come to make you understand what is to befall your people in the latter days, for the vision is for [many] days yet to come."

After fighting and traveling 3 days (I Sam 27:8, 30:1), David and his men returned to their camp and found their dwellings plundered and burnt. More importantly. their wives and families had been taken. Needless to say they were upset. Then the warriors who had just fought with him began to talk about killing him. At that point, David had lost his family and home plus his friends.

Scripture says David wept until he couldn't. Next it doesn't say how but he encouraged himself in the Lord.

When he had peace, then he prayed and asked the Lord what to do & heard God's answer. . (I Sam 30).

While on earth, Jesus' prayers included:

"I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me." (JOHN 17:23)

Amazing!

"Psalm of thanksgiving and for the thank offering.

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!

2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!

3 Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name!

5 For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations." Psa 100

Lingering, waiting or pausing in His presence.

"And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses."
"And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the [temporary prayer] tent." (Exo 33:11).

God talked with Moses as a friend. Friendships arent developed without lingering / abiding together.

Some commentators' perspective is that Jacob remained to guard the tabernacle. That may be but the manifest $ tangible presence of the Lord could have been the reason.

Have you been in a church service and there's the desire to linger? That's when I wish the ones who need to leave felt free to do so. Sometimes we have obligations. But staying in that place and at that time, usually there's no,one leading. Our hearts are turned towards Him and we're in adoration and awe. It's alone time with Jesus while in a crowd. If anyone does start singing, speaking praises to Him, etc usually, they haven't learned to linger in His manifest presence because it transcends words. You don't want to move around nor have your mind on other things nor any interruptions. There's a sacredness.. There will be rest (Exo 33:14).

Realize that lingering in His presence can happen at other other places including while alone and pausing in His presence. Usually beginning with "Come close to God [with a contrite heart] and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; and purify your [unfaithful] hearts, you double-minded [people]." (Jam 4:8) "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." (Psa 100:4)

Looked at other words and terms such as tarry, dwell, communion, fellowship, reside, lodge,, remain, habitation, be still and wait. In Hebrew, wait means intertwine. "Be still and know I am God..." Psa 46:10 Jesus said "Abide in me, and I in you..." John 15:4

"One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple." (Psa 27:4)

"Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord." Psa 27:14

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isa 40:31)

Finding this difficult to express. Open to others input

Unexpectedly thought our Creator God wanted me to pray for a couple of famous (wordly standards) folks and I didn't. I repented.

A couple of opinions - He would asks another believer to pray for them specifically while another view wasn't favorable. Tried to find a Biblical example.

I've often heard it said that God will find someone else to 'do the job', if we refuse to do it.
But, I can't yet think of a Biblical example of this ....
