CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Apparently, Trump cannot serve as Speaker of the House under current GOP Rule 26, “a member of the Republican Leadership shall step aside if indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed.” Because of Trump's indictments, he is ineligible to be Speaker under Rule 26 and, from what I recall, the Republicans cannot change their rules, to allow Trump to be Speaker, until after a new Speaker has been seated. OTOH, there is some who believe it doesn't stop Trump from being nominated, or even voted to be Speaker, it just prevents him from becoming Speaker if elected.

I mean realistically if they have the votes to elect Trump speaker, they have the votes to change the conference rules. While I doubt the GOP will actually have a significant push to make him Speaker, I also can't imagine he'd want the job.
It's like a job designed specifically to be an anathema to him - A job entirely built around procedure and negotiation.
