Oops: Pelosi's Words From 2019 Are Now Being Used Against Democrats in Biden Impeachment Push

Now, the Democrats are getting their just deserts. As Pelosi so flippantly dismissed McCarthy’s formal request for an impeachment inquiry vote back then, McCarthy is now doing the same to the former speaker and her Democratic counterparts. President Joe Biden’s fate is now at the mercy of a Republican majority.

McCarthy is demonstrating the danger of using momentary power advantageously to both parties. Unfortunately, for the Democrats, it’s their turn to squirm. With the pressure he is receiving from his own party, he’s not backing down.

Democrats might be wishing for a do-over right about now. Certainly, what the party faces in the revelations compelling the impeachment inquiry to commence won’t be comfortable for any of them. Without a doubt, it won’t be comfortable for the Biden family, especially the president.

“On October 15, 2019, three weeks after unilaterally declaring an impeachment inquiry, Speaker Pelosi, backed by Adam Schiff, insisted there was no requirement to hold an authorizing vote and she would not hold an authorizing vote.”

If McCarthy knows he can't get enough Republican votes to approve an investigation, that doesn't bode well for an impeachment vote. But hey, they might find enough dirt in the investigation to sway wayward Republicans.

McCarthy says an authorizing vote IS needed for legitimacy.

So for him, he's pursuing an illegitimate process - which shows for him this is just political games.

I dont have an opinion about whether a floor vote is needed for legitimacy.

But McCarthy does. And now we can see he's forging ahead despite it being illegitimate in his own mind. This shows its just games.

Important to note, the Office of Legal Counsel changed the rules in January of 2020 - after the events in the OP video:

So, even ignoring McCarthy's hypocrisy on this, the official legal guidance has changed. What was defensible (even if arguable) in October of 2019 is now no longer so.

It's fine as long as they do indeed do the self same thing. Pelosi was unable to issue valid subpoenas until the full House vote was taken. After that vote took place, the subpoenas could flow. McCarthy and Jim and Comer can continue to grandstand, but they have no impeachment authority to subpoena.

Nancy grandstanded also - IMHO - to complain about the what the Republicans are doing - which is EXACTLY what the Democrats have done is weak and a non starter when it comes to debate.

No one's complaining, because the Republicans aren't doing anything.

If they want to start issuing subpoenas, they'll have to have a vote, as Nancy ultimately did.

Yes, McCarthy has flip-flopped.

But I don't see any complaints. And I don't see any subpoenas. The Republicans aren't doing anything they weren't doing before. Your other thread is all about things that the GOP in Congress have obtained without any impeachment inquiry subpoenas. That Bobulinski stuff is 3 years old.
