  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Having dragged myself though it with some generous amounts of Dutch courage, no-one really covered themselves in glory. The responses to the 'did Pence do the right thing on Jan 6th?' were particularly galling (in most cases).

Ramaswamy was quippy and unserious. He's a baby rattle - lots of attention getting noise but nothing of note comes from it
Scott, Hurd and DeSantis were total non-entities. I can't recall anything they said standing out.
Christie was combative, but less so than I'd thought he'd be
Pence tried to play down the middle to everything
Haley was really the only one that made a moderately positive impression on me. Mostly for calling out nonsense from other people, which is really a low bar to cross.

Seems like the choice for 2024 is going to be the octogenarian or the inmate.

I've never heard anything about The Fox News channel supporting the Satan temple and planning parenting. Where did you get this info?

Newsmax

Report: Fox Halts Satanic Temple Donation Matches

July 24, 2023

If Fox News employees wish to donate to The Satanic Temple through a charitable company app, the company reportedly no longer will match the donation.

The Blaze reported Monday that The Satanic Temple had been removed as an option in which the company would match 100% of a donation up to $1,000 from Fox News employees, although other far-left wing groups such as Planned Parenthood, The Trevor Project, and the Southern Poverty Law Center remain as options.

The Blaze, citing sources inside Fox, reported the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, a charity in which Fox reportedly said would not match donations because it "doesn't meet program guidelines," was given an invitation to join the matching program.

What does this have to do with who won the debate?

You're off topic.

It has to do with the question of the Crazy Cat Woman in post #37, is this poster off topic toooooo, or will we surround the God fearing Christian Truth7t7 speaking truth with the complaint?

I already expressed that this was off topic in post #40, two posts before you dragged the thread off topic again. Let's get back on topic.

BTW, I didn't see your vote in the poll. So far it looks like more Liberals have voted in my poll than Conservatives. Go figure.

Are those the only two categories in your political profiling?
I would suggest:
1) Conservatives
2) Liberals
3) Independents
4) MAGA

Oh, I didn't vote as I didn't watch the entire debate.

Ramaswamy’s rise sparks harsher criticism from his rivals

Now it’s Vivek Ramaswamy’s turn to face the arrows, and they’re coming fast and furious after he stole the show at the first GOP presidential debate.

“That’s a direct threat to the lifestyle and deals of the Establishment: Pence, Christie, Haley and [former George W. Bush adviser Karl] Rove.”

That message has carried Mr. Ramaswamy to third place in current national primary polling, trailing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and far behind Mr. Trump.

It's not all that hilarious, but here 'tis on YouTube.
I heard a 538 podcast where the pundits were all “I know this schtick from high school debates”…he is a smooth talker. The epitome of the “empty suit” meme; still I’m withholding my opinion of him for the moment.

Hello Truth7t7, yes, I know that he is of the Hindu faith (which holds to a seemingly countless # of "gods"). With that thought in mind, I find it interesting that he did not say, "the gods are real" (instead of "God is real").

I suspect that Hindus think the same of Christians. Only Christians understand that we believe in ONE God in 3 persons. For others we have 3 Gods.

Who won the first Republican debate?
I voted for Haley; she certainly gained more than the other debaters.

HOWEVER, the clear winner was Trump. He now commands over 50% of the primary voters, plus Vivek percentage. Obviously Vivek will drop out when Trump needs his voters.

On ONE debate September, there is little real opposition to Trump: only Haley, Scott and Christie. That's very, very low 5 months before the primary.
=================
Just BTW, I think that any of the three could beat Biden, presuming that Trump doesn't run as a 3rd party candidate.
