  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yet even hospitalized at age 80, the retired bishop expressed a sense of urgency for having what he regards as the whole truth told about Indian residential school history.

As he lay in an Alberta hospital bed in late July, retired Calgary Bishop Fred Henry summoned the energy to publicly break the silence regarding what he considers the prevailing “lie” about missing Indian residential schoolchildren in Canada.

“Why is the Catholic Church not asking the federal government for proof that even one residential child is actually missing in the sense that his [or] her parents didn’t know what happened to their child at the time of the child’s death?” he demanded in an email to Toronto’s Catholic Register.

I think he's right on. Is there one bit of evidence that anything nefarious actually happened there. Sure the Canadian government sponsored residential schools were a bad deal. But this is being made out as Catholic sexual abuse and murder on a grand scale with zilch for evidence. It's time for actual evidence for a change.

I'm not against the guilty being punished. I'm not even against restitution. But there isn't even evidence of bodies yet, let alone evidence of murder. If one wants to complain about the residential schools, and they were bad, why is the legitimacy of the Canadian government not destroyed by all of this? It was Canadian government policy that set up these schools, and then paid for them on a shoestring budget. In hindsight the Catholic Church AND A WHOLE LOT OF OTHER ORGANIZATIONS should have stayed away from a bad Canadian government policy and program. I say put the blame on Ottawa where it belongs. Not on some Catholic orders that did the best they could with the policy of the time. OR produce the bodies and proof that they were murdered.

So they claim there are all of these bodies, but then they dig and no bodies ....

Maybe there are some bodies somewhere. Keep digging.
Just another false narrative against the Church reported as fact. They need to take a look at their own government.
