  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An ex-FBI official who was part of the bureau’s Trump-Russian collusion probe into former President Donald Trump’s campaign will plead guilty to charges of colluding with Russia himself, a federal judge suggested on Monday.

It's so interesting how different political sides see this.

One side says, see, I told you the FBI was corrupt. Look how this guy who colluded with Russia helped to derail the Russian collusion investigation. Of course it didn't come out the way we wanted.

The other side says, see, I told you the FBI was corrupt. Look how this guy who colluded with Russia was himself on the Russian collusion investigation. Of course the investigation was phony.

Agreed. Unless there's some public biases that allow people to create their own version of events.

One side says, see, I told you the FBI was corrupt. Look how this guy who colluded with Russia helped to derail the Russian collusion investigation. Of course it didn't come out the way we wanted.

Which doesn't make much sense. The FBI was getting warrants based on rumors....it's hard to look at either report and see even a tiny bit of derailing. If anything, it appears the FBI were able to investigate Trump on rumors and hopes using their most high tech and invasive methods possible....and there's no examples of a derailment?

We know what a derailment looks like. There would be FBI agents blowing whistles about all the stuff being done wrong. There was FBI informants leaking info on the case to the press every other week....no one even seemed concerned. The national archives have 6-9 boxes of documents from Biden's offices that haven't been examined yet....and it's been 6 months. Joe could snap his fingers and have those boxes' contents a matter of public record in a day....but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting.

The other side says, see, I told you the FBI was corrupt. Look how this guy who colluded with Russia was himself on the Russian collusion investigation. Of course the investigation was phony.

Also a pretty dumb statement. 1 corrupt agent doesn't make a corrupt FBI. You could argue that it's evidence of corruption in consideration of all the other evidence...but alone it just makes the FBI look inept, incompetent, or just really dumb. They're searching for collusion with Russia....and they pick the agent with the Russia wife, who speaks fluent Russian, drives a Pagani, and has such high quality informants in Russia....they pay him to give him information.

Edit- How hilarious would it be if the article said that the FBI began to suspect him when he told a coworker "In Russia, you don't pay informant...informant pays you" at the annual FBI Christmas party.

Ex-FBI spy hunter sentenced to [additional] 28 months for hiding secret cash payments

The FBI’s former top spy hunter in New York was sentenced in Washington on Friday to 28 months in prison for concealing at least $225,000 in payments he received from a former Albanian intelligence official while working for the bureau.

Charles McGonigal will serve his punishment on top of a 50-month prison term he received separately in New York last year for illegally conspiring with a Russian oligarch who wanted to be removed from a U.S. sanctions list.

McGonigal earlier admitted conspiring to launder money and violate U.S. sanctions intended to punish Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, an oligarch with ties to President Vladimir Putin. In his role at the FBI, McGonigal had been tasked with investigating Deripaska, whose own indictment on sanctions-violation charges was unsealed a few months before McGonigal’s.

I would imagine he's up for parole in 5 or less.

Seems light all things considered.
