  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pence attacks Trump as he challenges his ex-boss in 2024 White House race

June 7 (Reuters) - Former Vice President Mike Pence, who loyally served Donald Trump for four years, on Wednesday blasted his former boss for the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol as he launched his campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Pence issued his most forceful condemnation to date of Trump's role in the attack of Jan. 6, 2021, when the then-president's supporters stormed the U.S. Congress to try to stop lawmakers from certifying Democrat Joe Biden's election victory.

"I believe that anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States, and anyone who asked someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again," Pence said in a speech in Iowa, which kicks off the Republican nominating contest next year.

It was an extraordinary attack by Pence, not only because he has mostly shied away from attacking Trump directly until now, but also because the Jan. 6 attack is rarely mentioned by other Republican presidential hopefuls.

Pence said Trump's actions on that day "endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol."

Pence said on Wednesday he had no constitutional authority to meddle with the election results and that Trump had been "wrong." In Twitter posts on Jan. 6, Trump accused Pence of cowardice.

"The American people deserve to know that on that day, President Trump also demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution. Now voters will be faced with the same choice. I chose the Constitution and I always will," he said.

I am SOOOO happy they are actually going after him. Republicans showing some chutzpah. I truly think a lot conservatives are going to pull their head out...and change their mind. And good for them. Donald Trump is a blight on their history and the quicker he ends up in the history bin, the better for your country. In time, his fringe will be insignificant.

My take on this? Too little too late.
45, with no experience in politics, needed staff and advisors to be truth tellers. To counsel and guide.
Pence failed the test.

In fairness, not many other Republicans were being threatened with a gallows.

Well I see this kind of talk from the left.. Pence never attacked Trump what was said and interpreted by Reuters "Pence issued his most forceful condemnation to date of Trump's role in the attack of Jan. 6, 2021". Trump made a post Jan 5th saying something gee what was it.. anyway. Odd how that always gets left out. Like "go up peacefully" gets left out in Congress.. yeah odd how they never once showed it the Rep had to.

So yes Reuters and those on the left will say attacked. The pattern says it :)

ATTACK -2) to criticize (someone or something) in a very harsh and severe way

Pence issued his most forceful condemnation to date of Trump's role in the attack of Jan. 6, 2021, when the then-president's supporters stormed the U.S. Congress to try to stop lawmakers from certifying Democrat Joe Biden's election victory.

"I believe that anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States, and anyone who asked someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again," Pence said in a speech in Iowa

I think it's a case where they were tiptoeing around it before because nobody wanted to be "the first one off the boat" so to speak.

But it would seem like Chris Christie was happy to do it and thereby will embolden the rest to "let the fists fly".

Knowing Trump, as long as Gov. Christie is the one hitting him the hardest (which is likely), that will be where all of the MAGA-nation vitriol will be concentrated, allowing the others to take a some political jabs at Trump without catching the full blowback.

Pence says his pieces too but he's a bit to cowardly to do it directly. Though I will ABSOLUTELY credit him for doing the right thing as per the Constitution and when it counted, I would have thought he'd be far more directed at his criticism at the person who was, you know, trying to ignore it.

There's a very substantial quote there from Pence, which you can verify anywhere, and which I recommend you continue to ignore.

I watched a few of the Pence speeches recently, he said some the right words, but it didn't come across as very confident...I noticed a lot of pauses and heavy breathing (resembled me in 9th grade in speech class where I had to get up and talk in front of a group for the first time)

As to where Chris Christie seems to have a lot more confidence with that particular facet of "aggressive politics" and debating.

What makes it particularly interesting is that Chris Christie (prior to his falling out with Trump) was the guy the Trump team brought in to be his "practice debate" sparring partner to help prep him for debates.

I know some people love and some hate him, but there's no denying that Christie has the "gift of gab" during debates (and can be especially tough in primaries, Rubio found that out).

You don't get to win as a Republican in the state of New Jersey without having some political debate chops

(and in commanding fashion I might add)
1686404884592.png

To put these numbers in perspective, Christie as a republican, won the very blue state of New Jersey by a wider percentage margin than DeSantis won Florida (a red state)

I am looking forward to the first GOP debate for that very reason.

The problem is Trump's not gonna participate, so it'll basically just have the effect of Chris shredding all of the other republicans while Trump won't have to "face the music" so to speak

Trump casts doubt on the integrity of our elections simply because he did not want to lose. But he is not the problem. The problem is that so many people are STILL loyal to him no matter what.

"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?" Trump remarked at a campaign stop at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. "It's, like, incredible."

Yes, sadly so, incredible!
