  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This one is Catholic.

The Statewide Virtual Charter School Board voted 3-2 to approve the application by the Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma to establish the St. Isidore of Seville Virtual Charter School. The online public charter school would be open to students across the state in kindergarten through grade 12.

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond had warned the board that such a decision clearly violated the Oklahoma Constitution.

Good grief, their violation of the establishment clause isn't even a real school. It's a "virtual, online" school. I thought the pandemic ended in Oklahoma 3 years ago.

How does it violate the establishment clause?

Does Oklahoma want the Satanic Temple to run taxpayer funded schools? Because this how you get the Satanic Temple to run taxpayer funded schools.
Says who?

The Satanic Temple got into public schools where those schools allowed religion in Penn. School District Must Allow Club Run by The Satanic Temple to Operate, Federal Judge Rules

Now a state has decided to allow a religion to run a publicly funded school. They are going to have to allow all religions to do it or they will run afoul of the First Amendment by showing favoritism to one religion over another.
There’s nothing in the First Amendment that prohibits this.

As long as Oklahoma allows Satanism to do the same thing and use tax payer dollars to advance their agenda, there will be no problem.

The establishment clause has been interpreted pretty consistently to prohibit the spending of taxpayer dollars for religious institutions. But who knows with this SC.

What makes you think they need to do that?

So it’s been abused?

The state needs to be neutral when it comes to religion. So, Oklahoma can either give all religions money to operate their own religious schools or to no one.

I’m honestly shocked you have no problem with this. This schools is going to be using tax dollars (your tax dollars if you are in Oklahoma) to teach children to pray to Mary and the saints. You aren’t supposed to pray to anyone but your god.
