  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe that God predetermines absolutely everything.

Some say that God's alleged "eternal decree" encompasses everything in creation to the extent that God ordains everything, even down to the movement of the least subatomic particle, and that his decree, because it is eternal, precedes creation, thus effectively meaning that everything from the quantum uncertainty for each and every particle and up to the whole universe in its grandeur and slow movement are predetermined by God completely. Do you believe that?

I know many people do believe that is the case ...but
I have no reason biblically to believe that. You use the words "eternal decree" which I believe God does use (per se) of certain things (Heb 11:3) But I don't think God controls everything

"In Him we move, live and exist."
Acts 17:28

Its hard to say If the quantum world is predetermined (arranged by some other causes that are more back in time). Time works differently for various theories. Our subjective experiencing of time may not be real.

"God knows everything" is not the same as "God ordains it".

God does not ordain someone to curse his name -- or take His name in vain.

Titus 1 - God does not tempt anyone much less "ordain them to curse Him".

Jer 19:5
5 and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I did not command nor speak of, nor did it ever enter My mind;

Is 5:4 What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it?
Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce worthless ones?

I believe He foreknows things - but not that He stops to specifically ordain each second of quantum flux for each square inch of the universe.

Agreed, the idea of an eternal decree that encompasses absolutely every detail of absolutely everything from the beginning of time until its end isn't in scripture.
