For those who believe requiring photo ID's are restricting the rights of minorities to vote - a constitutional right.

Lord knows we have some irresponsible uninformed voters, but an ID, including college id's, should be enough.

But since guns in the hands of irresponsible stupid people can actually be deadly ID's should be the very bare minimum required.

Yes, I believe as deceased Justice Warren Burger did, that the Second Amendment has been drastically expanded and misinterpreted due to the corruption of big business.

Do you feel that requiring photo ID to purchase a gun is restricting the rights of minorities a constitutional right also?

Thoughts
Potentially. However the issue I have with voter ID is closely tied to cost\restricted access. Those are generally not barriers to someone who can afford a firearm.

Fed govt should simply issue everyone their national photo ID thats applicable for both voting AND gun purchases.

I'd be fine with that ID being required for voting.
....instead of this whole expensive rigmarole every time you move to another state. We're not living in the horse and buggy era of mostly living where youre born anymore.

Just living is largely an interstate concern these days.

Let's not make it easier for gun owners to vote by giving gun licenses double duty. Isn't the millions of dollars the energy spends so politicians will be their puppets making our nation the most dangerous in the industrialized world bad enough?

Ah. I would not consider the govt ID a gun license per se. Just a necessary identification document for purchase which would substitute for the drivers license.

Depends, are the legislatures involved researching the forms of IDs that are hardest to get for minority groups like they were for voter ID laws?

There are legislatures that allow gun licenses for voter id but not state issued student ids.

Want to know what is the right thing to do? Experience the wrong thing done. Most laws are written in light of something that needs correction. I have failed to understand why the need to put the squeeze of voting IDs when in reality, there is no great history of wrongs. These laws are not meant to correct wrongs, they are meant to, wait for it, suppress the vote because when turnouts are high, one party in particular loses power.

As long as the process is easy and any incidental expenses are covered. I recently realized my birth certificate had been misplaced. It cost over $50 to replace it. No big deal for me, but for someone who is poor it could be a huge deal. Costs of obtaining a required ID are in effect a poll tax.
