Saint Great is no longer a meme at this point. I'm speechless as to the irrationality displayed by another western academic center. Day by day they erode the principles of being an academia. Greta knows as much about theology as the climate which is to say rudimentary and surface level. Her claim to fame (infamy) hinges on activism alone. Many times when pressed for scientific accuracy she chokes like a student who didn't study for an exam that have no multiple choice answers.

She now has a doctorate in theology. The faster this world ends the better. Angels blow your trumpets!

Hatred for her? No my friend. She as in individual should not be hated. But we can always judge her actions. Her actions are not immutable from her. She could have always chosen a different course of action unlike her biological makeup where she has no choice. You're cavalier about using the word hatred. Also my target of criticism is not of her directly but rather the university for conferring the doctorate. It is a mockery of people who are more deserving in the actual field of study. Climate activism = Theology doctorate. You let me know is this even close to logical?

Although Honorary Doctorates are awarded to recognise someone's contribution to a particular field (for example - Theology) they are also often awarded to recognise a significant contribution to society.

That appears to be the case for this young lady's award.

You may not be a Greta fan but for many of us she has significantly contributed to the climate cause.

I won't go into her short comings for this was not my point to begin with. You can search for her "expert" climate opinions backfiring on your own. My beef (ok it is lunchtime here - sue me) is with the university. The doctorate should be confer at least to people who have in-depth knowledge or long serving experience in the field of study. Sorry to say Greta doesn't qualify by a large margin.

Secondly even if I concede that social contributions are eligible for an honorary doctorate the appropriate faculty/school like social studies or earth science should confer it. Theology really?

Yes and no. I believe that the climate has change faster than the past due to increased human activity. We must act but well within reasonable social economic parameters. We must take into account all livelihood before implementing laws and initiatives to go green. No point of talking about the future generations when you intend to destroy to current generation with any initiatives. I also believe in scientific data and statistics not some hogwash hypothetical scenario about the environment.

I don't buy what alarmists pander about how the earth will be irreversibly damage if we don't put drastic actions now. Which let me add that the timeline of earth being inhabitable presented by the alarmists have expired. Yet we are still here. Population is still growing. So fake news I guess? You won't find me friendly to alarmists. I rather listen to actual environmentalists than ideological ones.

Also let me add that I'm in the same line of thought as Konstantin Kisin in his debate at Oxford. All about how irrational alarmists are in both actions and ideology. How the world will not change if you whine about the climate when there are people whos livelihood depend on dirty energy. And to solve this is to innovate not protest and waste on attacking people.

I'm not sure which part of I believe that the climate change is accelerated as part of human activity makes me a sceptic but ok if you want to judge me for that. If by sceptic you mean I don't believe in the version of climate change presented by Greta then by all means I'm a "sceptic".

I rather be a sceptic in the eyes of Greta than to be sceptic in the eyes of actual environmentalists and scientists. One tells me a heavily fictionalized story and the other a realistic assessment of the world climate I and 9 billion other humans live in.
