Biden Claims It’s “Close To Sinful” For States To Stand Between Kids And Trans-Activist Doctors

Biden Claims It’s ‘Close To Sinful’ For States To Stand Between Kids And Trans-Activist Doctors | The Daily Wire

“What’s going on in Florida is…close to sinful.”

Gotta protect those kids rights to do irreparable harm to themselves.
What makes you think that gender-affirming care for kids equates to surgery?

Also, you’ve gone on at length supporting the legality of minors marrying adults far older than themselves. That often coincides with abuse that can cause irreparable harm.

Surgery is one of the things Biden (apparently) supports. Drugs to alter ones body chemistry are another. Neither are without considerable risks.

Also, you’ve gone on at length supporting the legality of minors marrying adults far older than themselves.

No he hasn't. The study in the thread regarding marriage under the age of 18 showed that >96% of "child marriages" are in 16 and 17 year olds and that the average age difference was four years. That's not minors marrying adults "far older" than them. That's a 17-year old marrying a 19 or 20-year old in nearly every case.

That often coincides with abuse that can cause irreparable harm.

Citation needed.

Well, when you put it that way... you make me lose sympathy for your position.
If I can do that, then your sympathy was quite superficial.

That would still leave ~3% constituting something kinda creepy, no?

What else are the doctors for?

What else are the doctors for?

Therapy, guidance, maybe medication. I’ve gone to the doctor a bunch of times, but I’ve only ever had surgery once (twice if you count my wisdom teeth).

Maybe you guys oughta take some time to learn about what it is you’re getting in a tizzy over.

Let’s stay on topic.
I’m trying to figure where the line is for acceptable levels of harm that can be afflicted upon minors.

It's disgusting how hard they're fighting for the "right" to mutilate kids. And Biden says it's "sinful" to prevent that? What bible does he read?

I'm against transgender surgery for minors. I'm also against puberty blockers that don't have FDA approval, although I'm okay with them if they do get approval. I'm fine with trans counseling for minors.

Your rhetoric is practically a parody of social conservative positions. I can agree with rjs330 on a number of his arguments concerning trans for minors. Then you come at the issue with a spiked war hammer, and it ruins the reasonable discussion.

The only thing we have to go on is Biden's claim that "what they're [Florida] doing" is "close to sinful".

So what is Florida doing?

Two Florida House Republicans filed a proposal Friday that would make it illegal for doctors to provide treatments such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy to transgender minors in the state.
Puberty blockers and hormone therapy interfere with the body's natural chemistry. As with all medical interventions, there are risks.

That would still leave ~3% constituting something kinda creepy, no?

Possibly, and it's definitely worth investigating the cases of children as young as 10-years old getting married (which numbers in the dozens over an 18-year period). But why not deal with the outlier creepy situations directly instead of trying to institute a law that will do little, if anything, to fix the actual problem?

It's disgusting how the culture war right have weaponized children seeking health care and are employing Frank Luntz verbiage in order to demonize them and those caring for them.

What is Gender Affirming Care. HERE

It does include surgery such as:

Here are some common gender affirming surgical procedures:

  • Double mastectomy. There are many types of mastectomy, and the type of double mastectomy procedure you receive usually depends on the size of your chest. During this surgery, breast tissue is removed to create a flat or flatter chest. This may also involve removing and regrafting your nipples onto your flattened chest.
  • Breast augmentation. This surgery involves putting in breast implants to create a fuller chest. Breast augmentation is one of the most commonTrusted Source plastic surgery procedures in the United States. Breast implants can also be removed or replaced.
  • Phalloplasty. This is a complex procedure that constructs a penis out of grafted skin tissue from another place on the body (such as from the thigh or arm) and threads the urethra through it. Phalloplasty (or phallo) often requires more than one surgery.
  • Vaginoplasty. This procedure can be used to construct a vagina. The most common type of vaginoplasty is called the penile inversion procedure.
  • Orchiectomy. This surgery involves the removal of one or both testicles. It is usually done together with a vaginoplasty but may also be performed on its own to reduce testosterone levels.
  • Hysterectomy. A hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus, and there are several different types of this procedure. A hysterectomy might be pursued during a gender transition if someone is experiencing endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome, or as part of a phalloplasty, among other reasons.
  • Facial surgeries. Gender affirming facial surgery can include a variety of plastic surgery procedures. This includes face and lip lifts, Botox injections, and resizing the jawline and forehead and browbone among others. The most common GAC facial surgery type is called facial feminization surgery.

Frankly, I don't like Biden's rhetoric either. If he's going to call Florida "close to sinful", he needs to point out the specific laws that he has a problem with.

But since he's being so vague, there's no indication that he supports gender reassignment surgery for minors.

How often are surgical treatments done on minors?

I don't know, how many? Would you like to see more or less of these procedures done on minors?
Let’s use my own “treatments” as an analog:

I’ve suffered from chronic sinus congestion my entire life. There are a wide variety of “treatments” for this condition including otc and prescription decongestants, nasal sprays and allergy medications; neti pots; dietary changes; air quality improvements; and a few different invasive medical procedures.

I tried all of them. After years and years of using everything that either made no difference or that helped enough that I overused it to the point that I no longer respond to it (afrin actually makes things worse now, yay!), the doctor finally went in and bored my nose out like an engine block. But most people don’t get this far. Most people who undergo “treatment”, stick with the non-permanent varieties.

Regarding trans kids, what I think is that if we’re going to ban “treatment” for kids because we’re conflating “treatment” with the subset of treatments that are invasive and irreversible, then it would behoove us to quantify what percentage of kids who receive “treatment” receive the specific treatments we’re worried about, no?

If you’re not even doing that basic level of research, is it really kids’ harm that you’re worried about? Or is it something else?

“Biden sat down with guest host Kal Penn to record an interview for Monday's episode of "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, and the conversation turned to trans-identifying kids and the efforts being made - primarily by Republicans in states like Florida - to prevent children from making irreversible decisions about their bodies when they're still too young to vote.”
I’m trying to figure where the line is for acceptable levels of harm that can be afflicted upon minors.
Why are you even wanting to harm children?
