A mass shooting at Michigan State University turned a routine Monday night into a "nightmare" after three people were killed, and several others were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The gunman, whose disappearance after two shooting instances on campus sparked a campus-wide manhunt and dozens of responding police agencies, was found dead off-campus.

Who is the suspect?

Police released images of the suspect shortly after their first press conference.

Identified as a 43-year-old man with no affiliation to the school, police said they did not have a reason the individual was on the campus Monday night. Images of the suspect show a man wielding a handgun, wearing a denim jacket, black pants, and red shoes.

Prayers for everyone involved.

I've been on Christian Forums since, I THINK around 2003. I was living in S.Korea at the time and it was a great place to reconnect and banter with english speakers.
Back then, when there was a school shooting, the threads were be instantaneous and HEAVILY commented.

They would start out as everyone giving condolences; thoughts and prayers and the like but after a few pages it turned into a gun rights discussion, as would make sense. And the pattern was the same:

1) Criminals don't care about gun laws
2) Gun laws won't do anything
3) Gun checks won't do anything
v
1) So what? We HAVE to do something
2) Yes they will. They work in other countries, why wouldn't they work in the US?
3) Of course they do and we should expand them.

There were several other common ones but these were the big ones.

What has been interesting is watching how few and few people comment, or, as is demonstrated repeated, CARE about these mass shootings. What used to be a special sad thing, has now become so common place most Americans barely notice it. 3 dead in a mass shooting? Oh well...who cares? There is more gun violence surrounding gangs than average citizens so we should "Target" that.
It's all a wash.

From an outside vantage point, it the most debilitating discussion I see taking place; watching Americans "debate the merit" of gun laws. It does seem certain groups are starting to accept that mass shootings ARE primarily an American problem but they seem unwilling to legislate any kind of change.

Of course, out come statistics in attempts to show otherwise; to show "look at the favela's in Brazil....we're not as bad as them". But it's all just so hollow and couched in a fear of change and reflection.

We HAVE to do something
Our inaction conclusively demonstrates otherwise.

Issues the survivors and the next of kin medals for their service, wait for the next one.

I usually make a point of only posting in mass shootings with a fatality rate of 10+.

This forum is drying up, too, we have, what? 30 regular posters?
And like you’ve said, mass-shootings quickly devolve into “gun threads” and we all know the arguments from both sides.
It’s not so much “who cares?” as it is “what’s the point?” (of arguing).

Have a good evening.

That's kind of the theme of this whole forum. People are so entrenched in their opinion that there is hardly any point to try and convince someone.

It is the bullets that do the most harm. I remember in the Army we had almost nothing, but there were lots and lots of bullets. Manufacturing gunpowder without proper knowledge, training, and legal authorization can be dangerous and is often illegal. That would be a lot easier to control than to try to control the sale of guns.

On the plus side for the mid-west and the south, bullet-mills could replace meth labs for secondary income!

Is it possible for people to make gunpowder undetected without blowing themselves up? Maybe they could import it. Even then it could be traced easily to the source. People can make a gun out of a piece of pipe or even make one with a 3D printer. I am pretty sure it is more difficult to make gunpowder.

Old timey “black powder” is exceedingly easy to produce as the manufacture can be done “wet”.

It is not something that should be attempted by untrained individuals, as it can be extremely hazardous and pose serious risks to life and property.
