This is all over twitter right now, apparently it’s only available in Italian right now and people are highly suspicious of why there’s no English copy available. Hopefully a good willed Catholic out there will translate it as soon as possible. If that happens I’ll definitely get one. The title translates as “What is Christianity?”

This might be a book I would be interested in reading, actually. Sounds very intriguing. That is, assuming the former Pope actually talks about what Christianity is. I don't know if I would be interested in just a slam campaign against Catholics (though I am very sure if that is the case that Benedict felt there was a very good reason for such a thing).

What it's about read here.

It appears it is not Pope Francis [but more likely German Bishops he had against him] and this book is about the things [gay marriage et al] that is against Catholic teaching.

I’m interested in reading it ASAP. I can assure you it will not be a slam fest coming from him.

Someone said they froze sales of the book as 'damage control'. Michael Knowles is asking for someone to lend him an Italian copy and then he'll translate it. Hopefully if/when he does he just puts the translated copy on to the web for free, cause the Vatican could end up freezing sales of it here in the US here too with the threat of a lawsuit.

Hmm . . . as far as I’m concerned, we should adopt a wait and see attitude. I can’t see Pope Benedict writing anything slamming Pope Francis. If this book exists and was written by Pope Benedict (2 different things), it’s possible he wrote valid criticisms of the state of the upper ranks of the clergy and the Church but I cannot imagine him writing a scandalous tell-all expose.

From reports of some who say they’ve read Archbishop Ganswein’s book in either the Italian or a translation into English, it’s fairly tame. Also, there’s no proof that Cardinal Pell was the author of that article that slammed Francis. People who knew him well say it’s out of character for him to write something like that.

I agree there’s problems with Pope Francis and major problems with many of the Bishops, but I don’t understand the glee that some people have about these tell-all books.

The devil is out to destroy the Church and it seems to me the calumny, slander, gossip and even lies from one section of the Church is causing as much scandal, fear and schism as that caused by the extreme progressive section of the Church.

Just my 2 cents.

Lord have mercy on us!
