Bishop Heiner Wilmer, who has been a vocal backer of the German Synodal Way’s most controversial proposals, is reportedly Pope Francis’s ‘probable’ pick to head the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Just weeks ago, the appointment of a controversial German bishop to the influential role of prefect of the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith was reportedly blocked by concerned cardinals, who urged Pope Francis against the appointment, Now, Bishop Heiner Wilmer is once again reported to be the Holy Father’s pick to head the Vatican’s office for doctrine.

Bishop Wilmer, who heads the German Diocese of Hildesheim and lamented four months ago that the German Synodal Way failed to approve text calling for radical changes to Church teaching on sexuality, was reportedly under strong consideration by Pope Francis to succeed Cardinal Luis Ladaria as the prefect for the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith back in December. But an intervention from a number of high-ranking prelates, including, allegedly, the late Cardinal George Pell, questioned the doctrinal soundness of Bishop Wilmer, and reportedly dissuaded the Pope from moving forward with the selection — at least temporarily.

Now, according to the traditionalist Italian website Messa In Latino, Bishop Wilmer’s candidacy is under strong consideration by the Holy Father once more. An open letter from the website’s editorial board to Pope Francis describes Bishop Wilmer’s appointment as “probable.”

Pope Francis’s reported interest in Bishop Wilmer comes in the midst of the Vatican’s ongoing standoff with the German episcopacy over the controversial Synodal Way, a non-binding process in the German Catholic Church that is seeking heterodoxical changes to ecclesial governance, sacramental ordination, and teaching on sexuality.

This story just won't die. There must be something to it. Frightening. Like foxes in the hen house.

Is the National Catholic Reporter a Catholic publication?

The National Catholic Reporter (NCR) is a progressive national newspaper in the United States that reports on issues related to the Catholic Church. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, NCR was founded by Robert Hoyt in 1964.

Liberals use this for their main stream info that I have questioned before.
As it is said: A progressive news reporting. Aka Liberal.

No. Clergy have come out and spoke against it as heretical. It calls itself INDEPENDENT. Fr. Z calls it Fish-wrap.

They're the ones saying the German Bishop is gonna be the choice, but there is a Ludwig in that position.
According to Vatican news.
So I am confused.

The publication, which operates outside the authority of the Catholic Church, is independently owned and governed by a lay board of directors.

What does that tell you? A quick search will also show you how National Catholic Reporter is in no way affiliated or approved by the Church. Many Clergy within the Church have spoken out to not even read it.

They aren't the only ones saying it. I think there are two other sources saying the same thing. We have had two threads before this one on the same guy possibly being appointed. It was looking very likely before Christmas, but then pope Benedict and cardinal Pell died, two people who, if they knew, would have opposed such an appointment. They're gone now.

Pope Francis:
Theologians must explore and "venture" out further to help enrich doctrine while catechists must stick to established, "solid" doctrine, never anything new, Pope Francis told theologians.

That was in November and that was two months ago.

Which saint said something about the men surrounding the Pope in a stressful era?
The Pope is stating nothing can be changed. But made understood.
There are very progressive folks who would like very much to 'create an ambiance of change even if change hasn't occurred' a certain opinion of the Pope so as to teach as they choose.
But they are not getting as far as they want and the news is not in favor of the Pope nor what he is actually saying and it's been this way for a while.
Since his beginning actually.

He was pegged liberal, and progressive.
It appears from what I have read is he is asking questions [praying] for answers and as having a certain charism, I believe he is receiving the aid when he repeats often that teachings cannot be changed even novel things that sound good,
Catechists, on the other hand, must only present doctrine that is precise, correct and "solid," he said, "not the possible novelties, some of which are good."
despite his reputation long ago flushed down.

I do not know who translates his dialect, and often times if done in exactness it changes in meaning in English as to where adjectives and nouns etc are placed.
I use a translator in Fbook for my French friends because it is a hoot in English, and yet if you ask them to translate it in fluid in English, they change the format and structure of the sentence to accommodate it.

And TBH I don't see this happening for the Pope.
The above quote I translated it to make sense...
he is not saying novel ideas are good, but that even if the ideas seem good, they are novel and must not be used.

:sorry: :preach:

I just can't seem to explain how he is being misquoted and often.
So I am taking things with a grain of salt and I have to check with Vatican because they do the 'translation' to English in a way that's true to our sentence structures.

Been awhile since I got to hear that. Awesome.
Yeah; I miss the 1980s. :)

Remember how nice it was to have sensible, stable adults in charge?

The article in the opening post wasn't from the National Catholic Reporter. It was from the National Catholic Register. They're unrelated as far as I know (though their names are irritatingly similar and I get them confused all the time).
