10 People Killed and 10 Others Wounded in Monterey Park, California Shooting

Ten people were killed and at least 10 others were injured when a gunman opened fire at a ballroom dance studio in Monterey Park on Saturday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The mass shooting, one of California’s worst in recent memory, happened in the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue at around 10:22 p.m., sheriff’s Capt. Andrew Meyer told reporters Sunday morning. The shooting occurred on Lunar New Year’s Eve about seven miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

There was scant information on the gunman: male and still at large. There is no known motive, nor a description of the shooter. A law enforcement source briefed on the matter said the gunman used a high powered assault rifle at close range.

The shooting occurred near the site where tens of thousands had gathered Saturday for the start of a two-day Lunar New Year festival, one of the largest holiday events in the region.

LA county is a different world. In bad areas, law abiding citizen should have guns to protect themselves.

Community leader Chester Chong told ABC7 that the owner of the dance studio on West Garvey Avenue was holding an event there on Saturday. Through talking with friends that were in attendance and other local leaders, he said a woman was invited to the event but not her husband, which made him upset. Chong said he believes that woman's husband is the suspect in this case and jealousy may be a possible motive for the shooting.

If I understand you correctly, and perhaps I do not, you are in favour of regular citizens being armed.

I see no reason to believe that guns in the hands of the general citizenry is a good idea. Do you?

Yes I do. For various reasons. From the original intent of the 2nd amendment, by those who just fought off the tyranny of an oppressive government, the weapons were specifically intended to ward off a wayward government as well as invaders.
And case in point... if someone in the building had possession of a weapon, it is possible they could have ended the shooting before 20 people where shot and 10 killed.
The police cannot be everywhere all the time.
Plus there is hunting and sports.
The problem is not weapons... it is the depravity of the population. If the population was right-minded there could be 10 guns in every house and we would never have to worry about such shootings. And truth is, we will never see criminals without guns. Take the guns away from all the "good" people, and the bad people will be the only ones with guns. And since the "good" people will have no defense whatsoever, they will be easy prey for the bad. I suspect if all the guns were taken from the "good" people, we would see crime increase exponentially.

We don't know if other people had guns. We have gun laws. But Los Angeles is a very dangerous city in some places. Also more people could have been killed, if people have guns and aren't trained to use them. Or people, that had guns froze, instead of using their guns.

Fantasy. I know many people on the right and not one wants any kind of violence... especially the kind of violence we saw last summer in cities across the country carried out by people on the left.

There have been people on the Conservative Right . (Even on this forum) That want to go to war against anyone that disagree with Trump and Democrats. I'm sure a lot of looters, took advantage of the the BLM protest. I do not agree with looting, or destroying stuff. January 6th is proof of the Right trying to overthrow the government. With Trump's help. Luckily they were to weak.
