Two Republican lawmakers who were previously expelled from House committees over their extremist or violent remarks have been given committee assignments again, days after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) won the gavel.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) will be seated on the Homeland Security Committee and Rep. Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.) will be seated on the House Natural Resources Committee, according to two people familiar with the assignments who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the decisions.

Greene and Gosar, along with Reps. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) — four of former president Donald Trump’s staunchest and most controversial allies in the House — will be seated on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. That panel’s chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), has made investigating President Biden and his family a top priority, with implications for a possible rematch between Biden and Trump in 2024.

I do not expect Biden to run after the results of the investigations, after all he stole classified materials, failed to handle classified materials correctly (top secret material in his garage), and there are also the questions about selling influence. He career should be over.

I hope Biden decides to not run again so we can move on with candidates who are born after the 1940s.

Well....that's one way to grab a committee chair. At least they tried to keep them out.

Investigations should be a top priority...there's little else likely to be done.
There’s the crashing of the economy by insisting on keeping the debt ceiling at its current level…

...yet another insult to the House of Representatives (as an institution).

What experience does Greene have in national security issues?

Crashing of the economy?

Why would that happen? Did someone put us into more debt than we can pay off?

I don't think there's a lot left to insult.

1. I don't think anyone was claiming Greene had experience. She was needed to leverage this power play. My guess is Gaetz coordinated it. He seems to understand what I outlined as a possibility for a third party on a different thread....the deadlock in Congress worked in his favor.

2. Since when did the Democratic Party start caring about merit? She's got pregnant person parts....if she were black, then the Democratic Party would consider her qualified for Vice President or SCOTUS.

Right, experience is obviously not a factor in McCarthy's calculus. It should be.

Why? Why the sudden interest in merit/experience?

Sudden interest....say, how would you know if my interest is sudden or otherwise?
Answer: You don't.

Well let's see...

I remember you favoring Harris in the primaries. Yeesh.

I haven't heard a peep from you regarding any number of the Democratic Party's committee appointments that were between unqualified and barely qualified.

I see, so you think VP Harris' qualifications are on par with Greene and Gosar ? hmmm.

I don't know anything about Gosar.

I'd say Harris has achieved about as much as Greene during her time in a DC. Prior to DC, neither had any experience, to my knowledge.

Kamala Harris first held elective office 20 years ago as a DA in San Francisco. Later, she was attorney general of the state of California for 6 years. She served 4 years of a term as Senator from the great state of California; though I suppose that is "in DC", it still started 4 years before MTG was elected to her first office.

Hey my mistake...I wasn't aware she served as Senator. I didn't think she served outside of California.

I guess her time as Senator was about as noteworthy as her time as VP.

Yet she was a Senator and now Vice-President and all this time you’ve been holding forth on a dying religious forum. Huh.

AG and Senator form a state with one of the world's top economies....vs

In 2002, Greene's father sold Taylor Commercial, an Alpharetta, Georgia-based general-contracting company that he had founded, to Greene and her husband, Perry.[1][31][36] The couple are its vice president and president, respectively.[31]

Greene was listed as the chief financial officer of Taylor Commercial from 2007 to 2011,[1] but a 2021 Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation determined that she had no significant presence at the company.[37] In 2011, Greene stepped down as the company's CFO and began CrossFit training.[37]

By 2012, Greene was working as a part-time coach at an Alpharetta CrossFit gym.[1] In August 2013, she co-founded a CrossFit gym, CrossFit Passion, in Alpharetta, along with Travis Mayer, a CrossFit athlete, before leaving the business in early 2017.[38] In a 2015 interview, Greene said that when she and Mayer founded the gym, they knew little about how to run a business.[37]

In 2021, Greene said that she became politically engaged during the 2016 Republican Party presidential primaries.[39] Beginning in 2017, she wrote 59 articles as a correspondent for the now defunct American Truth Seekers, a conspiracy news website,[13] and beginning in January 2018, 27 articles for Law Enforcement Today,[2][40] a pro-police fake news website.[41][42] In 2017, Greene visited Washington, D.C. to protest against a Republican gun control compromise.[43]

Greene was a top official of the Family America Project, a conservative group founded in January 2018. She was a moderator of the organization's Facebook group, in which members posted death threats against Democrats, bigotry directed at the Obamas, and support for multiple conspiracy theories, including claims associated with the John Birch Society about the U.S. government being infiltrated by communists.[44]

...she's certainly wall qualified for today's Republican Party...
