The wife of an Iowa Republican who ran for Congress in 2020 was arrested Thursday and accused of casting 23 fraudulent votes for her husband.

In an 11-page indictment, prosecutors say Kim Phuong Taylor "visited numerous households within the Vietnamese community in Woodbury County" where she collected absentee ballots for people who were not present at the time.

Once again, we must thank Republicans for demonstrating that the systems we have in place to detect and prosecute election fraud are working.

Were these 23 votes counted? Or were they detected before being counted?

I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe they were indeed counted. One of the charges is that she defrauded the state "by the procurement, casting, and tabulation of ballots"

Thanks, I agree it does sound that way.

Well, if one person could get 23 illegal votes counted how many more illegal votes were counted?
Did she request the mail-in ballots for these voters? If not what did these voters do when they didn't receive their ballots? Did they request a new one, did they vote in person, or did they just not vote?

In my opinion, there is a real problem here that needs to have more of a safeguard and probably some serious voter education in some communities and beginning in the junior year of high school before kids turn 18.

Why would we prosecute this one?

I thought the Democratic Party only cares about this sort of thing when it clearly effects election outcomes?

No harm no foul lol.

No, various Republican voices are claiming that A) numerous election outcomes are being affected, and that B) therefore, we need additional laws and regulations.

The Democratic response is that A is false, and therefore there is no need for B. The existing laws are adequate and can be utilized to punish election fraud. As in the case in the OP.

Republican candidate’s wife sentenced to 4 months in prison for voter fraud

Kim Taylor, who could have faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison per count, must serve four months of home confinement following her prison release plus two years of probation, as well as cover $5,200 in court costs.

Chief U.S. District Judge Leonard Strand acknowledged as part of his sentencing decision that Taylor had no prior criminal record and was the primary caretaker to her and her husband’s six children and her elderly mother.
