I have used the KJV Open Bible for as long as I can remember. I can remember the Free Will Baptist church awarding me my first KJV Open Bible at the age of 18 for teaching a year of Sunday School there and have delighted in it ever since.

But... There are sometimes I quote out of the KJV and must go back and make sure that the point was well understood and that I did not speak alien to newcomers .

The First Freewill Baptist Church. Good bunch of people! They would treat me out to dinner on Sundays after church. They also had wonderful foot washing services and would lay their hands and pray for me as they went through the ritual. Use to leave with a wonderful clean feeling as well. Hoping they are still open!

I started..with KJV..
- I use..NKJV, NIV & Amplified Bible.

I began with and heavily used the KJV after my conversion until I realized that a good part of this bible study held at a former church of mine had to interpret antiquated words in the translation in order to explain what the text meant in the modern vernacular. Plus, I was starting to develop a bad habit of speaking the "King's English" subconsciously in my conversations with unbelievers about the faith, and it only brought greater confusion to the people listening to me. I eventually saw that this translation is only fit for private reading and studying, and later decided to read the NIV1984 as my primary translation, which was my favorite for a long time until I picked up the ASV and NASB a few years later. However, the King James is a timeless translation. It will not fall out of use anytime soon.

I must say that I have read that KJV Open Bible many times along with the help with the Strongs Exhaustive Concordance. Whenever I post material from the KJV, however, I always have the fear that the meaning will be missed with the translation, and that I may have to go back and clarify my points.

We just have to realise the following:
- we all may have our preferences
- all translations come with errors
- ANY translation comes with unavoidable theology bias
- some translations focus on 'as-literal' / '1-on-1' to Hebrew/Greek but may be less easily readable, while others are more dynamically translated/easy to read but lose their more direct connection to underlying source languages. You cannot have both - one has to choose.

The early 17th century language of the KJV makes it fairly unsuitable for any modern English speaker; the NKJV is not bad at all, but still uses the same Manuscript sources as the KJV (and thus ignores any manuscripts discovered after the 17th century).

My personal preference is NASB1995 - but I'm puzzled by people who think God would 'anoint' only a certain translation in a certain language.

I started out with KJV when I was a kid but had a really hard time understanding it. Today I use a combination of CSB, ESV, and NASB. Language changes over time and the KJV is a nice translation, but unfortunately, it's not something that's easily relatable to modern linguistics.

Sadly it looks like they have closed. :(

However, a great many traditional churches offer foot-washing, particularly in Holy Week.
