This is a long episode (over 2hrs) but if you got time and/or can still glean stuff from something playing in the background while you do other stuff I think it's a really conversation what these three guys have. Check it out if you'd like.

I had been holding my breath on this one for days now already after being alerted to it by George Weigel. He thought it would drop before Christmas. So I held my breath. As long as I could. But then nothing happened. It still could - any day now. And that would look exactly like a disaster.

This was also on Rorate Caeli a few days ago. A Christmas Surprise? - Francis to name Über-Modernist German Bishop as Prefect for Doctrine of the Faith

But then I noticed last night that the same source posted just on December 27th that the appointment seemed to be blocked. Cardinals block appointment of Heiner Wilmer as Prefect of the DDF

The operative word is 'seems'. No documented evidence of a block.

"Now it seems to be thanks to Cardinal Müller who, with numerically strong support in the College of Cardinals, was able to persuade Pope Francis to refrain from appointing Wilmer as prefect of the faith.

Francis, however, is known for his reluctance to let his intentions be thwarted. So for the future, they say in Rome, there is no guarantee. The fact is, however, that Wilmer's failure to be appointed, which was already considered "certain" in the third week of Advent, has a concrete reason: part of the College of Cardinals revolted against it -- successfully for the time being."

So depending on how stubbornly determined pope Francis may be, we could still get this appointment, or maybe they could find someone equally bad. I hope that pope Francis found that this was going to be a bridge too far.

We seem to have good evidence that cardinal Ladaria will be replaced. He was NOT reappointed and the Rupnik scandal is tarnishing him. So it's still wait and see time. Actually watch and pray time.

They can do that? I didn't think they could do that.
They can’t judicially do that. They could at best threaten a mass resignation or threaten to go public with their concerns. Or maybe just yell a lot. But to actually stop it, no.
I hope it's more than "seems" though,
The Rorate Caeli story was remarkably short on real details. I think ‘seems’ is the right word unless we get more details.
it's imperative this guy doesn't head that dicastry.
It would make a mess.
