The House January 6 select committee is considering a criminal referral to the justice department against Donald Trump for obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress and conspiracy to defraud the United States on the recommendation of a special subcommittee, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The recommendations on the former president – made by the subcommittee examining referrals – were based on renewed examinations of the evidence that indicated Trump’s attempts to impede the certification of the 2020 election results amounted to potential crimes.

The select committee could pursue additional criminal referrals for Trump and others, given the subcommittee raised the obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud statutes among a range of options, including insurrection, and discussions about referrals continued on Thursday, said the sources.

The Department of Justice must give this consideration. More voters will be repelled. Trump's star is waning.

No Trump is still being chased by those who have failed to catch him for years. Let the charges be made and the trial begin the sooner the better, Trump will be found not guilty that is, if there is even enough real evidence to support charges which frankly I doubt.

Hopefully he’ll finally get his comeuppance and go to jail for ages.

They need to imprison anyone who disagrees with the teachings of the Democratic Party.

Yes, he is. So far Trump has eluded justice. I agree - let the charges be made and the trial begin.

Trump under oath could be very interesting :)
Good point. But you have had him under oath already; he took an oath of office. Here it is:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

He must have forgotten it on January 6th 2021 when he urged people to overthrow the Constitution; and then again when he suggested that it should be thrown over to 'prove' he had won the election in 2020.

So, I agree - very interesting.

Well, perhaps he did "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" to the best of his ability. Sadly his ability was a bit lacking :).

14 words, easily penned. Do you have any actual evidence to support this extraordinary claim that Democrats are actually interested in imprisoning anyone who disagrees with them?

They certainly have no interest in identifying and prosecuting the plethora of Washington establishment elites that were having sex with underage kids on Epstein Island. In any event, the love, loyalty, and devotion of the DOJ/FBI is to serve their masters in the Democratic Party while they all get rich robbing us blind.

Is any part of this post verifiable?

"The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol voted Monday to send to Justice Department prosecutors a recommendation that former president Donald Trump be charged with four crimes:
1) inciting or assisting an insurrection
2) obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress
3) conspiracy to defraud the United States
4) conspiracy to make a false statement

The move has no legal weight, but marks the first time Congress has made such a referral for a former president."

Additionally:
  • The committee is also referring four Republican House members — Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and Reps. Jim Jordan (Ohio), Scott Perry (Pa.), and Andy Biggs (Ariz.) — to the Ethics Committee for ignoring the panel’s subpoenas.
