Thus far, the Justice Department’s endless pursuit of the president has been a whopping “nothingburger” that has served only to further erode the public’s trust in American institutions tasked with protecting the citizens of the U.S.

Trump remarked on Truth Social on Friday: “Under the Presidential Records Act and the very well established Clinton Socks Case, the raid of Mar-a-Lago by the FBI, and the taking of documents and many other items, was ILLEGAL. Everything should be returned, at once!”

After what Newsweek described as his worst legal week ever, the Walker loss, and plummeting polls, he is obviously worried.

Nobody seems much interested any more.

At one time the press would be all over this. So far, a big fat nothingburger of a story.

The press needs excitement to move a story. Investigations move slowly and are shelved by the press because of the short attention span of viewers. Time will tell if anything more comes of this.

Are you kidding? A lot has been happening with the latest being that a judge refused to hold Trump in contempt for not complying with the subpoena - but many people are saying that is because the DOJ should just indict him already over the stolen documents and obstruction of justice rather than tiptoe around the ex.

The most important recent developments are:
1. Trump's lawyers hired a company to perform a physical search of some of Trump's properties and they found two more classified documents.
2. The DoJ lost in court in trying to get Trump and his lawyers for Obstruction. Instead the judge told the two sides to sort this out themselves.

In terms of consequences we still have a Trump lawyer in trouble for falsely signing a letter saying that Trump had no more documents. This happened before the raid of Mara logo which discovered hundreds of documents.

Even though a company hired by Trump's lawyers did a recent search. Neither Trump nor his lawyers will sign a new letter testifying that Trump no longer has any classified documents or presidential records.
The National archives say that documents are still missing.

I should, perhaps have been clearer. I meant that, in contrast to Trump's tweets of yesteryear which were headline news, the press has not picked up on his 'Truth Social' message of last Friday:

I searched for reactions to it, and found none. Of course there are numerous articles about the ongoing criminal proceedings - Mar a Largo and the alleged wholesale fraud by his organisation.

Plus, it doesn't actually matter if they are classified or not. They are government property. They are part of the presidential record.

I know little about him beyond his reputation as a 'Trump lite' conservative. Perhaps, now that the Republican Party is creeping out of Trump's gloomy shadow DeSantis can assume the mantle of a more mainstream Republican. Should we expect him - and other potential runners in 2024 - to tack a little away from radical conservative positions?
