Ohio AG hasn't heard 'whisper' of evidence for child rape victim seeking abortion

I had doubts about this story when I heard it. Now the President has mentioned this case which seems to be falling apart. If there is such a case the abortion advocate who the story originated with is bound by law to report the case to the authorities. There is no evidence that such a report has been made.

The Ohio law does have exceptions so the 10 year old would not have had to travel out of state to have the abortion. A 10 year old would come under these exceptions according to the AG

WaPo is a lot more cautious about the situation than one of the OP sources implies.

This is a very difficult story to check. Bernard is on the record, but obtaining documents or other confirmation is all but impossible without details that would identify the locality where the rape occurred.

So the rapist is just going to go free? Or even worse if it's a family member is this 10 year old going back to the same situation? Seems like there should at least be as much interest in bringing the offender to justice as there is in the story. If the person this was first reported to didn't contact the authorities that in itself is a crime. The AG says nothing like this has been reported. Your link is behind a paywall.

Yeah I'm not surprised. There was a big elephant in the room, of what happened to the person who did this, and I think the much bigger story is why that detail was not very interesting to all the newspapers/news-outlets and politicians making hay from this story.

Kind of reminds me of other topics, like with guns and the push to disarm the populace, when the problem often ends up being on issues like not enforcing existing laws, going easy on minority gang members who commit previous crimes in order for blue state liberals politicians to keep their bases happy etc.

Not only to the media but, if the reaction of the left here is any indication, to most abortion supporters. There was little to no effort to find out who the culprit in this crime was; the only thing they wanted to focus on was 'lack of access to an abortion'. It seems they couldn't have cared less that such a person was left unidentified and able to prey on other young victims. This was all about politics pure and simple......sickening if it is a true event......disgusting it it was just a political ploy......

The AG is unaware of such a report. But without knowing what county or jurisdiction it happened in, it would be difficult for anyone to check.

I quoted enough to show that the NY Post was exaggerating when it said WaPo found the story "highly dubious". WaPo says the story is based on a single named on-the-record source, but would be difficult to verify.

Given the the fact that in a number of us states where legislation is in place or being enacted to ban abortion in all cases barring the life of the mother, this story is or will be a reality. Inevitable.

I saw the AG on television last night and not only were there no such reports there were no requests for rape kits for any such incident. If the story is true someone has failed to report it which is illegal itself.

There seems to be an assumption here that all rapes are reported. Many are not. One can be raped, not report, and be pregnant. HIPAA makes verification of this account difficult if not impossible. One cannot assume it didn't happen any more that one can assume it did.

If it did occur there is a rapist somewhere who needs to be put in jail, if it's a family member the girl could still be in danger and there is a provider who failed to report it who should face the consequences

All true. This situation is difficult to prove as having actually happened (would you like your daughter's name spread all over the media world wide?). But please...let's not kid ourselves. Situations very much like this are going to happening in very many states from now on in.

I mean, seriously...what did you really think was going to happen. It wasn't that long ago that hypotheticals like this were presented to those who supported an abortion ban and they were asked what could be done. And we got...crickets. A deathly silence. It went straight into the Too Hard Basket.

So to say 'Hey, but it might not have happened' is to miss the point entirely. And to switch the discussion with a few comments about law and order and 'what about the rapist?' is to ignore the point entirely.
