Isaiah 1:19-20

19 If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the good things of the land;
20 but if you resist and rebel,
you will be devoured by the sword.”
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

________
Here Isaiah is warning the Israelites of the possible consequences of their sinful actions against God. The message is clear and straight to the point: Rebelling will result in war and death. On the contrary choosing to honour God and following his Laws will bring life and abundance.

God in his mercy and love for us, wants to give us the best and there’s no other way to receive his countless blessings without walking in obedience. Sadly many of us try to obtain the “good things of the land” by ourselves thinking that we can trick God. Some will say that we’re all sinners, that no one’s perfect and it’s just human nature to look for shortcuts. But that’s just not how it works.

For example here’s a common Christian behaviour that contradicts the 1st commandment: making everything a priority in our life before our relationship with God. We’re so caught up in our daily tasks that we barely spend time with Him. Work, spouse, kids, passion, hobbies, everything fits in our schedule but we find it hard to make time for the Lord.

Truth is we’re not waiting on God to give us “the good things of the land” - whatever it may be for you. God is actually waiting for us to come back to Him.

So remember that respecting God’s commandments will be the key to unlock God’s blessings in your life. Do not sin to get what you think you deserve, stay obedient. Rebellion will do you no good.
