this say nothing about what I think.
your opinion only
ok, what does this have to do with the conversation?

Let's not derail this thread, back to the topic please.

You elected to answer vaguely. That is your choice. The OP requested members who’ve left the catholic church to share their story. As we’ve done. Some may disagree with the decision. But they don’t sit in the Most High’s place and have no say in His choice.

For it is written…

For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

One of the things that never sat right with me was confession. I didn’t believe I needed to share my sins with another to receive forgiveness or atonement.

I felt that way as a child and it never abated. I was fortunate to have close relations with priests who were willing to discuss God with me. They gave me my first bible and I read it.

It deepened my regard and reluctance to place myself in human hands. I could commune with Him directly. Future experiences revealed the same. When I went to the monastery and they taught us lectio I already knew it. The Holy Spirit showed me in my quiet time. But I didn’t address it by that name.

Unless the Lord builds the house the people labor in vain. No two houses are the same. The road He selects for one may not mirror another. That doesn’t make it wrong. The truth is in the fruit. You will know the source.

I encourage other Christians who have left the Catholic church to share their stories as well.

Mine was only one reason, the current Pope. What I saw him doing and continues to do as he dismantle things like the Traditional Mass and things that Pope Benedict 16th did I would just rather leave then cause problems. I still watch Catholic things, pray the Rosary and still am a third order lay person. I do not hate the Church and I have more animosity toward evangelicals and I love the Liturgy and the Holy Eucharist.

Confession and absolution was instituted by Christ; not sure how that gets missed, but most Protestants disregard it. Judging by what you posted, you do not understand how it works, and what it is supposed to do.

You are welcome to your opinion. I will defer to the Holy Spirit’s leading. He never corroborated that statement. If I’m misaligned He’ll set me straight.

He did, in the Holy Scriptures He inspired.

Make sure that you can discern the Holy Spirit. Since this is taken directly from Scripture; the power to remit or retain sin, is a good indication that the Holy Spirit is doing just that; and it may be that He is working through fellow believers here at CF. It may be you are listening to the wrong spirit.

I don’t have difficulty hearing from Him and have the gift of discernment. You’re providing common advice. That isn’t the same as a word of knowledge. There’s no maybes where that’s concerned. It comes from Him and hits the spirit.

As a rule, I don’t readily accept advice from strangers or seek their input. I need to know your character and walk. Nor does He send them my way. Its a rarity.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

I don’t lessen my discrimination in this setting. Familiarity breeds comfort and wrong assumptions. As numerous threads attest. Being in the company of someone who calls themselves a believer I neither know or haven’t met doesn’t suppose the Lord is speaking to me through them. The Internet requires more discretion.

Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.

The Lord provided wise counselors for my edification. I know them intimately and see their faith up close. I’ve been given parameters for this venue and transgressing them never goes well. I appreciate your input. God bless.

Maybe this is why she posted here - see the OP quote below.

Quote from the OP.
The mods suggested that this might be the appropriate forum for this discussion concerning ex-Catholics. I ask commenters to not attack or disparage those who have left the Catholic church.

Why did you bother posting here considering you are doing just what the OP asks posters NOT to do.

I agree and so does scriptures.

1 Timothy 2: 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

You don’t need to confess your sins to a human when we can go directly to Christ. We do not need a mediator because Christ is our Mediator!

God bless!

But it’s not religion we want.
What you don't get is that religion is very much like (and just as necessary) as the pages of instructions that come with everything from lawnmowers to assemble-yourself book cases.
How are people supposed to know what God wa ts and expects from them if someone isn't around that knows how to follow the printed directions, and can teach others what to do?

Find a church that preaches the whole Bible.

And Community, koinonia, fellowship. Not just an intangible concept of "all true believers" but flesh and blood fellow sinners, brother and sisters with whom we worship and journey.
