If you are familiar with the NY laws in particular, I will defer to you on this particular one. BUT in a number of states the election boards simply sent out absentee ballots to everyone who was on the voting rolls at any time in the past decade, using whatever address they could find. Many people received several. Others had moved and the ballot was forwarded to another state, yet they still voted. And some were addressed to dead people, many of whom apparently chose to vote nevertheless because those ballots came back in the mail, filled out properly, and they were duly counted.
Which states send them out to just any former voter? In Arizona, you have to reregister if you hadn't voted in the past 3 years.

Yes, I know what Trump said there, but you can't be so casual as to be contending that if a lot of questionable ballots show a great plurality for Biden and it's otherwise a closely divided election, that this doesn't at least raise some doubts that deserve to be looked at.

How many court cases has the Trump camp won proving Biden won any state through voter fraud?

I am sure you can duly provide the source of your assertion.

No it is just an extra line you get to vote on but you don't have to, your ballot is still valid without that selection. Should we vote on every office on separate ballots? :)
I was thinking about stuff like medical marihuana or new school books.

In other words if I am expecting the ballot and it does not show up I would know about it, BUT if I vote and send the ballot back I would have no way of knowing if it was intercepted on the way to the polling place or post office.
Does your state not have ballot tracking available online?

None of this stuff should be going on, Hank.

But if there remains a partisan army of people ready to claim that invalid votes are but an inconsequential oddity that we should be happy to tolerate, it will continue.
The problem is that your supposed cure is worse than the "disease".

And it looks like fewer people than I can count on the fingers of one hand broke the law in the 2020 election with absentee ballots.

I have never seen new school books on the ballot, but medical marijuana became legalized here that way. And recreational marijuana too. There are bills that legislators are afraid to vote for.

Oh, it can get ridiculous, see California governor recall, but if you want to decide if your ort wants to allow medical marijuana then it can make sense though I agree, I would prefer that schoolbook purchases be left to those selected to determine their necessity.

I do not know to tell you the truth as I usually vote in person and even if I did not there would be a good chance mom would just drive and deliver my ballot to the early voting place, so I have no reason to know the answer to that question.

that ruling was before I was old enough to vote if it was in 06 so before I really cared.
It is still wise to know the history of an idea. It looks like the new law is almost the same and has the same purpose. The aim appears not to be to stop illegal votes. The aim is to stop the "wrong people" from voting.

Our legislators are either braver or less likely to leave stuff in the hands of the voter.

Since I have seen the initiative process abused quite often I would like to see a bit more pressure put on legislators by removing it. Though since that would probably need a large super majority to enact such a change to the state constitution I do not see that happening soon. If ever.

Arizona voters can get an absentee ballot for any reason, and can request them online.
see Voting by Mail: How to Get a Ballot-by-Mail | Arizona Secretary of State

One can also get on a Permanent early ballot list. The ballots are not sent out to everyone - only if requested. Most folks find it easier to fill it out at home and mail it.

I liked being able to track the ballot - if it was sent, when it was received, when it was accepted as valid, then when the vote was counted. I used to work 12 hr shifts at night (RN- ICU) and the last thing I wanted to do was wait in a line and vote. It was not bad for the smaller elections but not for the big ones.

QFT - Sounds like a good way of doing it.

I love it! We have voted by mail in my state for many years. Ask me anything!
I hear folks claim more cheating occurs with mail in ballots. Is this documented in your particular state or is the claim without merit?

Both parties do it and both parties do it a lot and both parties have gotten SUBSTANTIALLY worse at it over the last couple decades. I think the people generally recognize that but aren't willing to bust out of their own patterns of vote out of fear....
