I dont think the waves have anything to do with policies and mandates. Warmer states get surges in the summertime because everyone stays indoors to avoid the heat. In the winter, northern states get surges because everyone stays indoors to stay warm. I called this months ago.
The differences in deaths are clearly due to policies. The deaths in the northeast were mainly early on before there were vaccines available and we did not know what we were dealing with. In the latest surge their death rates barely ticked up due to the high percentage of vaccinated elderly people. In the home of Trump and denial the recent surges continued to kill the old and at risk while other states were far less affected.

I know, it is crazy. As someone that opposes Trump you would think that I would be happy that they are dying at a faster rate, but I am not. I do not want the next election decided on who was too foolish to not get vaccinated and who was wise enough to do so. I do not want anyone to die so I am very pro-vaccine.

A very large portion of those occurred before there was a vaccine or we even knew much about the disease. As we learned, my adapted and their death rate went down; even between waves, sizeably.

Florida has been a consistently poor performer that has not adapted with knowledge so while my deaths plummeted Florida's stayed the same or increased.

I wonder how many more waves will occur in Florida before they pull their head out and realize what they are doing

How do you feel about almost a million Americans dead of COVID in just 2 years ?
I feel as bad for the Americans that die of COVID as I do for the twice as many people that die of cancer or the three times as many people that die of heart disease.

However, forcing vaccinated people to wear a mask does not stop the spread of anything … yet the fear mongers would have me believe that I will catch COVID and die if I walk down the street without a mask. None of the data on the spread of droplets or aerosols supports their conclusions. (Architects are required to understand HVAC systems, so this is an area that I needed to educate myself on for work).

Using that line of reasoning - why isn't NY wonderfully low? BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD HIGHER SPIKES AND MORE DEATHS THAN FLORIDA!
New York was in the direct line of fire early in the pandemic ... before we had much to fight it with. New York suffered during our learning curve.

Neither cancer nor heart disease is transmissible between persons. There is nothing you or I can do to keep a person from being diagnosed with cancer or heart disease.

Because COVID is transmissible (i.e. we catch it from each other), it is a PUBLIC health crisis ... and Americans should be willing to do what they can to keep their fellow Americans safe. Of course, we've seen that every American is not so willing ...

Which Alberta? Because at the same time, (before the delta variant), I predicted there would be wave after wave of various "varients" for years to come. The covid vaccine was never going to eradicate the viruse like small pox or polio. Rather, like the flu, there would be multiple seasons that would require annual boosters. Something i said before the idea of covid boosters were even a thing.

Here is one such example of one of the predictions I made back in June.
Yep...pretty much. Now figure out how to cope with the reality that there are selfish people in this world. Or you can just hide in quarantine until all the selfish people get vaccinated. Up to you. By the way, I am not opposed to getting vaccinated. I just think it is foolish to spend the rest of your life living in fear. I hate to break the news to you, but the virus isn't going away. There will be a new strand after new strand every year like the flu. So learn to cope with it like I have.

But that slows the spread down, way down even if its not stopped.

What percent of infections are among the vaccinated?

"Way down" seems inaccurate.
"Statistically insignificant" seems more probable ... but I welcome quantification.

I don't know, but that is easily misleading unless you also know what percent of the population is vaccinated/unvaccinated. The more people vaccinated, the more likely that the infected number amongst them. If 100% of the population were vaccinated, then, of course, 100% of the infected would be as well.

A more telling statistic is how many of the hospitalized and dead are unvaccinated compared to vaccinated.

Bravo! Say it louder for the people in the back.

Even if these studies were correct (an 8% reduction for states with "stricter" measures), imagine taking a victory lap without even considering the collateral damages of those measures. You can check out this link for ample reading on the collateral damages exacted by the government enforcement of COVID mitigation measures;

Home - Collateral Global

Public health is (supposed to be) about ALL outcomes, not just how well we mitigate one disease.

Yeah, that's not true. We could encourage healthy lifestyles (eating right, working out, etc.), which absolutely would reduce the risk and instances of cancer AND heart disease. This would also ease the burden on our public health systems as people would be healthier in general. But alas, there is little money to be made and much money to be lost in actually making people healthier.

Because COVID is transmissible (i.e. we catch it from each other), it is a PUBLIC health crisis ...
You don't think that cancer and heart disease are PUBLIC health crises because those things aren't transmissible? Yikes. I knew public health had lost its way, but I guess I didn't realize just how much.
