  • Leftists - the successors of the East German state party

  • Green Party

  • ÖDP - another small ecological party

  • Communists

  • Nationalists

  • Feminists

  • others

I will make a short list.

And you can vote for more than one party.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about German political parties today.

Perhaps you could provide some descriptive information ...

I am afraid a lot of infos would be too much. And only boring.
Just go for the names of the parties.
That is already a short kind of info - and to the point.

You do not know all that much.
The names of the parties already give a rough idea what they stand for.

I would refrain from voting due to knowing nothing about German politics and having a similar level of knowledge about the needs of Germany.

Well, a vote on a forum is not a vote that would have any consequences for Germany.
It is more a question for one's general opinion.
So everybody can feel free to vote in a poll.
There will be no harm done.

I have no idea who’s who so my position remains I have no business taking a position.

Well, we do not elect persons - we elect parties.

And so probably most will have a rough idea what Christian Democrats, Social Democrats, Greens, Liberals, Communists etc etc usually stand for.

Btw: Nobody MUST vote here - but everybody is allowed to

If I could vote in Germany, I would have voted for CDU.

It’s ironic, I hate religious affiliation with politics and in my own country it is a disgrace how Christians sold their soul to devil for power. But the little knowledge I have .. I like CDU policies. I always liked Angela Merkel, I will miss her.

May be I am naive and not know much of CDU domestic policy so I like them, but if I lived in Germany and had first hand knowledge about CDU, I would have found out Christians in Germany are same like any other western country where Christians are power hungry voting block.

Christian Democracy in Germany is very different from that of the USA, the militarism and guns for example are completely missing. The abortion law in Germany also already defines life as beginning at conception but is practical about women's choices in the first 12 weeks. So Germany has one of the lowest abortion rates of any major developed country. Being a Christian is entrenched in German welfare provision to a far greater extent than in the USA also with the widow, orphan, exile, old man, sick, and ignorant all catered for. That said many Germans lack a theological vocabulary at all and can hardly even talk about God.

The big issues in this election are corruption in the CDU, poverty, and inequality, and the Environment. There is a bit of personality politics going on also with the CDU candidate being associated with the misdeeds of the last 16 years while Scholz (SPD) who was also a part of the government is not so regarded.

From the US point of view, I would say the nightmare outcome for relations with Germany would be a combination of the Leftists, SPD, and Greens all of whom want a greater degree of independence from America and in the case of Die Linke are even talking about leaving NATO. Both Scholz and Laschet and also the FDP are more sensible on defense matters and understand the value for global stability of an alliance between the USA and Europe,

Don't worry, the CDU has little to do with christianity outside of its name.

It's a lot like totalitarian states calling themselves "democratic".
