100 Days: How Biden Has Fared So Far On His Promises

Before being elected president, Joe Biden promised he could accomplish a lot of things in his first 100 days in office.

We gathered a number of those priorities here, two days after he was declared the winner of the 2020 election.

As we approach the 100-day mark of his presidency, and ahead of his first address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, Biden has made a lot of progress on COVID-19, and Americans largely approve of the job he's doing handling the coronavirus pandemic and the economy.

It's a different story, however, when it comes to immigration, which polls show is the president's biggest vulnerability at this point. He has also made efforts on racial justice, the environment and switching back to a more multilateral approach to foreign policy. But so far he has not been able to get everything done that he set out to do.

In another thread I addressed a (laughably false) claim that the fact checkers are not watching President Biden... I would like to present an article by NPR (respected on both sides of the aisle around here for their political neutrality) that, well, checks facts.

Thoughts?

Still not at 100M fully vaccinated.

Trump's wall still being built.

More kids in cages and family separations at the border.

DACA still in limbo.

Gas prices soaring.

Working on disarming citizens.

Capital gains hikes in the works, hurting middle class retirements and investments.

Unemployment at 6% national average.

Planned Parenthood re-funded.

Our local clinics are talking walk-ins with no appointment and less than half of time slots are filled. Today, Tuesday.
Getting abstainers to get needled, even for free is the problem.

Gasoline has been under $4.50 a gallon for a long time.

I'm sure the working poor liked gas better at $1.89 a gallon and not $2.69. We all did. Most of us can't afford a Tesla.

The Chevy Volt Hybrid was not designed cheap enough enough to continue it.
Electric bicycle sales are steady and rising.

Considering gas prices nationally were $2.50 per gallon, when Trump left office, it appears you are blaming the wrong President.

False, over 100 million have been vaccinated. Are you attempting to use the false metric of receiving two does versus one dose? The first does still provides protection if you're somehow arguing that one shot is not protection.

Trump's wall still being built.
Biden has halted all funds and support to building a border wall.

More kids in cages and family separations at the border.
False.

DACA still in limbo.
Indeed, we could see changes if not for Republican intransigence in service of stopping the "replacement."

Gas prices soaring.
Presidents do not control gas prices and they are not soaring at all. Prices are similar to pre-pandemic prices.

Working on disarming citizens.
False.

Capital gains hikes in the works, hurting middle class retirements and investments.
Another falsehood, why do people foist the middle class in place of the rich? A rate hike would only apply to millionaires; moreover, 75% of stock owners would pay nothing more.

Unemployment at 6% national average.
Lower than when Trump left office...

Planned Parenthood re-funded.
That's good, money to family planning is very good. That's a win.

Not false, but true. Only 94M Americans have been fully vaccinated.

Biden has halted all funds and support to building a border wall.

And yet the construction continues.

True: Biden Brings Back Family Separation—This Time in Mexico

Five major immigration promises Biden hasn't yet fulfilled

Indeed, we could see changes if not for Republican intransigence in service of stopping the "replacement."

Expand on that. What kind of "changes?"

Presidents do not control gas prices and they are not soaring at all. Prices are similar to pre-pandemic prices.

Nearly $1 a gallon is "soaring" to me, and I'm fairly well off, so I'm sure those making less than me are feeling that as they try to make ends meet.

And no, they were far lower: US Retail Gas Price

ABSOLUTELY TRUE: Biden's ATF pick, the call to bring semi-auto rifles under the NFA, mag bans, pistol brace bans, red flag laws (which violate due process) and the like ALL are an infringement on every American's 2nd amendment rights and we will simply not tolerate such a totalitarian move by a man who said "Any President that rules by EO is a tyrant" and has issued more EOs in his first 100 days than any other President in history.

Another falsehood, why do people foist the middle class in place of the rich? A rate hike would only apply to millionaires; moreover, 75% of stock owners would pay nothing more.

Wrong. I am by every definition middle class and I would be affected by these capital gain hikes. I'm trying to build a future for my children while the DNC wishes to strip what I aim to give them for themselves. Absolutely not.

Lower than when Trump left office...

Due to DNC-run states shutting down their economies...I don't blame Trump for what these draconian governors did to their own people.

That's good, money to family planning is very good. That's a win.

At what point did we think we needed the government to plan for our own children?

You do know the unemployment rate has been tumbling for months now?

I'm going to get my shot today and I haven't scheduled it yet.
Slots are wide open. People are the shortage, not the vaccine.
In fact, I'm going to schedule it right now now.

While we've gone down, sure, that seems to miss the mark of seeing what the shutdowns did to hurt people through 2020 and into 2021. This was a measure implemented by certain state governors (some states didn't shut down), not the federal Executive branch.

Under Trump, the rise in gas prices is a sign of a recovering economy that was resulting in increased demand, thus higher prices. Under Biden, it's a sign of bad energy policy. duh.

...it beats me why people think any POTUS can influence the price of gas (outside of declaring war on OPEC).

Actually it was always a sign of regulation and inflation (ie: weak dollar) barring any acute catastrophic events (ie: spills, war, etc).

Oh, when my wife has the three grandchildren and goes shopping in the snow or rain, I am sure the electric bike (charged by coal), will be a great comfort.

...it's about time we start paying for the needed repairs to our highway infrastructure. In any case, taxes do not directly influence the global market price for oil.

The federal gas tax hasn’t been raised since 1993, but that could change soon as a bipartisan group of House members has endorsed a plan to pump up the levy.

The group, which consists of 58 representatives, also proposed examining a vehicle miles traveled tax, which would impact the growing number of electric vehicles as another possible income stream. The money would be used to pay for infrastructure spending.

And all we need do to see that price again is shut down the economy to precipitate an oil price crash like we saw early in the pandemic.

If you are making over $1 million a year in stocks, you are not middle class. I am tired of people that are rich arguing that they are somehow on the same level as a person making $50,000 year with no stocks. And if making less than $1 million a year in stocks, then your capital gains tax is not changing. Arguing otherwise is a false claim and that needs to stop.
