Be Obedient, Wise and Innocent

Rom 16:19,20
Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

Obedience is characteristic of those born of God. And since according to John 1:12, faith leads to being born of God, one could say, "obedience comes from faith" Rom 1:5

Faith -> Justification -> Regeneration -> Obedience -> Sanctification

Furthermore obedience to the gospel opens doors for evangelism and causes others to praise God.

"Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ." 2Cor 9:13a

"The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia— your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead" 1Th 1:8-10a

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." 3John 1:4

We are to mature, becoming more experienced in doing good, and inexperienced, but not naive with regards to evil. Paul writes, "In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults." 1Cor 14:20

The promise of crushing Satan's head goes back to the first Messianic prophecy found in Genesis 3:15.
