2 Corinthians 6:
11 O Corinthians! We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open.
12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.
13 Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open.

When believers allow their hearts to harden towards one another for whatever reason,
The Love of God goes from a flowing spring to a trickle.

Romans 5:5. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out
through our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

John 7:38. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow
rivers of living water.

1 John 4:
17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.
But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not
love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God love his brother also.

Revelation 2:4. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Does this then point to returning to the way they related at the beginning - mentioned in the first 5 chapters of acts - living as a loving community?
What do you think Carl? The church at Ephesus is not mentioned in the first 5 chapters of Acts, but
I know what you are saying. "living as a loving community". That would seem to be the preference.

Anyone with an inkling of intelligence must realize that US elections have become a 100% play on the emotions of the people, their affections rather rather than about issues. Dangerous.
Topic is not about US elections. Not a political issues forum.

Personally I believe that according to Jesus prayer in John 17 the love and unity of believers was meant to be visible to the world.
We have allowed our secular social pressures to isolate us and the world cant see Him in us collectively as He intended.
Christian community has been replaced by institutional church and the heart of evangelism, seeing Him among us, has been lost.
Restoring this way of life comes at a cost that few are willing to pay.

I agree with your assessment. I would add to that what I feel is the reason why the church at
Ephesus was critiqued as losing their first love. How many times have we seen someone fully committed
to "their ministry", devoted full time, while allowing personal relationships to suffer.
Becoming so focused on "our thing" that we stop seeing the needs of those around us in the church and home is a real danger. Keeping our hearts open to those nearest to us insures that the Love of God is flowing through us to others, more than just "the work of our hands".

Most churches teach that laity aren't allowed to take any interest in the fivefold. I think Jesus intended us to potentise each other as co-this, co-that, co-the other (that is what trading the talents is, and Feeding the Thousands, and the crown, and Is 55, 58, 61, and James (Proverbs 31:10-31 = the proper Mother Church personified). This what First Love is and this is what Holy Spirit belief is.

It's only worldly thinking by bigwigs (some of whom gained big audiences) who "imagine themselves vainly" who see us as competitors out to destroy them. Rene Girard pessimistically observed the tendency while not being able to offer a remedy as it happened; cynical sects piggy back on this scapegoating tradition by enforcing the non-solution outright.

We are invited to pray extra, for 38 days particularly for the world now, and for just government in our countries )politics alert(. If Jesus didn't intend us to be fit to intercede, what did He intend?

We should always be thankful for being a part of the body of Christ, and maintain
our affection for one another by the Holy Spirit.
Colossians 3:
12
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Some people mistake praying for intercession to mean take a personal intercession, thus putting our will ahead of His.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 - I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

hope this helps !!!

Here is a verse that I use to focus prayer for others in the Will of God only, not in making
specific requests.
Colossians 4:12. Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

I believe the principles of living in Community were established long before the Church was born.

In this sense the divine authority for community is a given.

However our modern expressions of Church have hijacked spiritual ministry which should be largely manifest from a family base.

Meetings should be a time to rejoice together about what is already happening rather than an attempt to make it happen in a controlled environment.
