The Heart of Man

There are 2 places in the Bible where all food is declared clean: Mark 7:19 & Acts 10:10-29. God sends a single vision to Peter which holds a double meaning (amazing!)

1. Lord Jesus Christ reminds Peter that He has declared all food as clean.

2. As one reads through Acts, Peter slides and sways away from the Gentiles. He eats, drinks and is seen with the Jews more than the Gentiles - even Jesus’ disciples saw this occurring. More importantly, Lord Jesus Christ sent Peter this vision to set him straight in a loving way!

The Deeper Meanings
Christ literally said to eat His flesh and drink His blood: John 6:52-59. Why? Because people consume the wrong thing, the world. As disturbing as this verse seems, He is saying something Spiritual to them in which they do not understand. As Jesus Christ once put it: John 4:31-32. He is speaking about food from the Holy Spirit, a special communion with His Father in heaven. He gets His earthly sustenance at specific times while most of the time putting His flesh to death by fasting. This is so He can be close with His Father and listen to His Voice.
Consider these verses: Jonah 2:3, Psalms 42:7, Psalms 69. Ask God to show you what is meant in each of these contexts.

The only way to keep your heart clean is to believe and follow Jesus Christ, otherwise it is impossible. Our heart is inherently evil apart from Him: Jeremiah 17:9-10 (read Jeremiah 17 for a full contrast). Only Jesus Christ is the Way, Truth and Life; the only Living Water of Spirit and Bread of Life.


Small Testimony
There was a time in my life where I ate up what people said about God rather than seeking Him for myself. I thought these “Christians” (and true Christians), were so enlightened that they knew what they were talking about. I consumed the information from the wrong source - people. Even recently I had done the same thing again, which God so loving-kindly corrected my wrongfulness in that and showed me His Truth in something I had missed. I repented from trying to correct a brother in Christ from something I didn’t fully understand (which I thought I did), and I also apologized to him as well.

We must take care with the meat and milk we get from our brothers and sisters in Christ also because, like in my above example about myself, we certainly can be wrong. Always get your meat and milk from Christ Jesus, Lord and Saviour - and you will never be wrong in Him. Take the time to be with Father in heaven and ask Him many things you may not understand or even think you do. I’m not saying to doubt, I’m just saying to be ever mindful and check what others say about what God says in His Word. See if they truly are right, and if not, love them by kind correction in something they have missed.

Jesus Christ was the sufficient sacrificial Lamb of God, and this is why we have communion with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We, in a Spiritual way, consume His very being which is the Word of God!
