People will have to manage without the help and protection of the police as fewer and fewer officers are available or willing to take actions that might result in financial or legal consequences.

272 uniformed cops putting in retirement papers

‘How can we keep doing our job in this environment?’ And that is exactly what the anti-cop crowd wants. If we have no cops because no one wants to be a cop, they will have achieved their ultimate goal.”

morale is “at the lowest levels I’ve seen in 38 years.”

“It’s an all-out war on cops and we have no support,”

The weary rank and file also wonder if one bad decision on the job could get them arrested and charged with a crime.

“The politicians are spitting in the faces of families of cops killed in the line of duty and now they’re handing over the keys to the city to these criminals. This is insane,”

If that one “bad decision” is murdering someone, then they really shouldn’t have to wonder what will happen to them...

Here in rural Virginia, we don't have to worry much about this stuff. The county sheriff is well-known and liked by the locals (since they elected him), and crime around here is pretty low.

Of course, we live about 20 miles from the sheriff's office, so response time is longer than 3 minutes, but people here understand that and rely on themselves for immediate protection anyway.

That's very clever. But it doesn't do very much to solve our societal problems, now does it?

Of course you can. God's Word provides for self-defense against criminal action; Jesus even took it as an obvious unquestioned truth that a man has the right and responsibility to defend his home from intrusion- so foundational that He used it to teach a lesson about being prepared for His 2nd coming.

"43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." (Matthew 24:43-44)

Now tracking down and harming an enemy of yours or your family who wasn't an immediate threat would be another issue. And sadly, a lot of confusion has been wrought due to people not recognizing and acknowledging that this is indeed a separate issue which calls for a different approach than a criminal attack which puts someone in immediate danger, whether that be yourself, your family, and/or another potential victim that you have the power to help in such a situation.

And even when it is not, it will be called murder by the victim culture.

It is rather bazaar isn't it. A cop properly doing his job now has to muster up an added type of courage he never had to have before just to do his job. It almost seems like some type of weird science fiction story.....forces seek to destroy a nation but choose not to do it by the release of big destructive bombs but just convince the public their capacity to retain law and order is done. Seems reminiscent of an ole Twilight Zone show entitled, "Monsters on Maple Street" It had to do with an alien invasion which conquered earth merely by causing men not to have any faith in one another.

And actual murder will be called “justified” by right wing nut jobs...
The evidence very, very seldom supports murder but you would not know that if you read to posts here or listen to the msm

To put this into proportion:
  • 272 NYPD officers have put in retirement papers
  • 183 officers filed for retirement during the same period last year
  • The current retirees represent an increase of 49% or 89 officers above the normal retirement rate
  • NYPD has 36,000 officers (excluding administrative staff)
  • 89 officers represents 0.25% of the NYPD force

The number of additional retirees is a tiny percentage of the force. While this is not insignificant, the sky is hardly falling.

You would not know actual evidence if you’re relying on sources with a right wing nut job agenda.
Well I guess if you only use the statistics that are verified and independent someone will call them biased because they do not support the liberal fantasy

You can expect this trend to continue in this nation and the ultimate cost will be to the lowest income communities who historically depend of the police the most. Many of those communities are minority communities. It is a little like burning down black owned businesses in BLM protest. There is no way this is going to make life better for the majority of blacks and minorities.

One piece of data (NYPD retirements) is not a' trend'.

Even if I accept your opinion that the NYPD retirements are a 'trend', then the trend is a minimal loss of 0.25% of police officers across the various (18,000) US policing services.

Given that a proportion of these losses will be police with racial motivations, then some of the loss will be a positive outcome.

In other words, if your version of 'trend' continues there is no reason to believe it will significantly affect policing. There is a possibility that the current situation will have a negative impact on police recruiting. It may also encourage re-thinking on the role of policing.

It is a little like burning down black owned businesses in BLM protest. There is no way this is going to make life better for the majority of blacks and minorities.

Your oblique referenced to 'burning down black owned businesses in BLM protest' is disingenuous and an obvious attempt to suggest that BLM protest is normally associated with riot and arson. Data being collected by Ipsos and the Universities of Chicago and Oxford, suggests that 80% of Floyd protests have been peaceful. Given that we are hearing reports of white supremacist provocateurs and police misbehaviour, placing the responsibility for violence, where it actually exists, is debatable.

I will not deny that the protests provide the opportunity for violent acts and that some protesters may have crossed the line, but sheeting all acts home to BLM is ridiculous. There is no evidence I'm aware of showing that BLM encourages arson or looting.

Can I recommend that, in future, you support your comments with data and some semblance of clear thinking instead of emotive, unverified and ill-considered opinion?

Provide your evidence to back up you post. Show where police are getting away with murder. The nut jobs are the people making accusations that they cannot back up with facts.

What I hope is that when all the bad apples retire or are out in jail better people with significantly more training and education can be employed.

And that all the money spent on APCs and heavy weapons can be spent in community projects, social workers and mental health agencies.

Better crime prevention services less crime.

I think your analogy is well taken. White Nationalists HAVE infiltrated the police and ARE sowing distrust in American society.

When the police are emboldened enough to casually kill people on camera it’s pretty clear there is some organised infiltration going on.

But in this case white supremacists and not aliens.

But that was a well observed point.
