California mayor says he'll resign after comparing Trump backers to KKK: report

The mayor of a Northern California city said this week that he'll step down after posting social media messages comparing supporters of President Trump to members of the Ku Klux Klan, a report said.

Angry residents in Auburn, about 33 miles northeast of Sacramento, confronted Mayor William Kirby during a city council meeting conducted by video because of coronavirus concerns, FOX 40 of Sacramento reported.

“I spent 40 years dedicating my life to serving the community of Auburn as a physician and through my volunteer efforts. Am I perfect? No. We’re all a little flawed,” Kirby said, admitted to the council that some of his recent posts were misguided.

In one of the posts, the mayor -- who is also a physician -- a shared photo of a Ku Klux Klan hood, with the caption, “Good news for Trump supporters is that most of them already have masks,” the report said. The post was later taken down.

The council also heard voicemails about Kirby left by city residents and fellow council members, FOX 40 reported.

“These comments are hateful, degrading, bigoted and more consistent with the mentality of a 15-year-old,” one voicemail said.

All of these types should be fired ASAP.
We shouldn't have to look far.

Ok, that was easy to guess. Bc a standard that would never be applied to Donald Trump or politicians Trump support was applied heavily to him.

It's a pity bc the mayor is a physician & was apparently respected - I mean even Fox News makes that clear - so pushing him out during a pandemic is a silly overkill. He didn't just make a comment out of the blue about the KKK, it was a bad joke about wearing masks. Fox News notes that ppl in the community agreed "100%" w him. Apologizing was necessary, but resigning, no.

Good for him for having standards though! I mean if Trump resigned bc of the hateful awful nasty stuff he tweets he'd have resigned b4 he even entered office & of course blamed it all on other ppl provoking him or whatever. Accountability is refreshing.

Seems like Hillary with her crude remarks made towards Trump supporters helped to get Trump elected. I will admit that her timing was perfect.

Looks like they are doing it again out there.

Working for Trump and they don't even know it.

Lol, you proved me right bc I knew you were gonna write exactly that.

You're right though, that it does seem like that bc of the massive double standard. Trump so frequently Tweets out / says things that are far more malicious, nasty, racist, crude, rude, slanderous, but it's like a firehose effect. Trump supporters do that ALL the time to ppl too, insulting horribly those who don't support him with accusations worse than being in the KKK. Yet bc of that frequency, it's not memorable. Hillary's comment for like 4 yrs ago? Totally memorable bc it was way rarer.

Let's be fair and balanced here.
We don't even have to look too far away.
Here on this site which side ((usually)
shows a little more love?
Which side doesn't?

Who supports their Country more often?
Who tries to tear it down?

Who are kinder with their comments?

Definitely not the Trump supporters.

Nearly all my friends I've ever made on here were driven off bc of the nastiness from the Trump supporters, some of it super personal & awful. Hurtful at a deep level.

You're OK most of the time tho! Jake / Go Braves left here a long time ago but is friends w me IRL, he was amused by you & your goats. :) Oh that reminds me his grandma has coronavirus & is really having it rough. She's 70. :( His grandpa had been a MAJOR Republican politician so that's why he totally loves Sen. McCain, he met him a lot bc of his grandpa & has pictures all over his Insta, but ppl here were constantly making it out like he was lying about being a Republican bc he doesn't support Trump. He's doing great besides worrying about his grandma.

Just when I thought that I was on a roll
that stopped me in my tracks.
I hope she recovers.
It's sad for many families out there.
Take care and be safe.

PS -- I'll tell the goats you said hi.

ALL the time? Worse than being in the KKK? What's worse than being in the KKK? Since this happens all the time; would you present us with a short list of, say..., 20 examples of quotes, that are false accusations, that are worse than accusations of being in the KKK? We're not talking about Jimbob and Cletus on the back porch, on a Saturday night, after too much white lightning; right? We're talking about people who rise to the moral status of holding public office? People we would trust with the public care, in the course of a national emergency?

He is at every campaign rally, that's one of the things supporters say about him.

This is why America is losing ground with the rest of the world. Too many Evangelicals in this Country think Trump will save them---when they should be looking to God. They enjoy his tweeting rants because they represent what they feel about the so-called fake news and liberals in general. Trump is leading them off a proverbial cliff with a lot of false prophets telling them that God ordained him to be President.

Let's take the convincing non-believers question first.

It seems like Evangelicals are doing their best to convince non-believers that Christianity is a sham with their rhetoric. Maybe you ought to listen to what is being said about Christianity in general as I try to. I right now am trying to reach a non-believer with Christ or rather I am trying to plant seeds, but I realize that his view on Christianity is skewed.

As to whether none think that----you probably would not know---always looking to the outside when you should be looking at your own actions and words.

Christ alone? Please.

M-Bob un.

And what is the Church of Jesus?

Btw---I am a Believer in Christ as well, who has learned that politics and the world they represent is where much of the problems arise.

This site is getting very political(which sucks). It brings nothing but arguing.

My opinion is that mayor is a bigot. You know you’ve lost your cool when you resort to crying “racist”. look Trump is very childish in his demeanor but he has done nothing but good for our country. Blind hatred of him does not let you see the good he has done.

No sorry I was just talking about the people in general who have a blind hatred of Trump. It goes both ways with whomever is in office but this is the worst Iv'e ever seen it. He could cure cancer and still get hate.

It should be a lesson to all of us. Hatred in any form is an illness that eats up the hater from the inside and does more harm to the one hating than to the object of that hate.
