How does a person apply the righteousness of God and or the cleansing blood of Christ?

Step #1. - By God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ:

Generally Speaking:

A person will place faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior (John 3:16), and believe that He died for their sins, He was buried, and He was risen three days later on their behalf for salvation (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). This can also include a person calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation (Romans 10:13), and or in seeking forgiveness with Him (Luke 18:9-14) (1 John 2:1-2) (1 John 1:9).

Direct Verses on the Imputation of Christ's Redemptive Work Via By our Faith in Him (i.e. God's grace):

Romans 3:21-22
21 "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference"

Romans 3:25-26
25 "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus."

Romans 4:3
"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."

Genesis 15:6
"And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."

Romans 4:5-6
5 "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,"

Step #2. - By Sanctification (Living Holy by the Power of God):

Direct Verses on the Imputation of Christ's Redemptive Work Via By Sanctification:

1 John 1:7
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

Hebrews 5:9
"And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;"

John 6:53-54
"Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

Supplementary Text:

"I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (John 6:51).

"Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." (John 4:34).

"As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me." (John 6:57).

"And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again." (2 Corinthians 5:15).

Added Note: Grace & Sanctification Imputed Righteousness:

Verses Implying the Imputation of Christ's righteousness by faith in God's grace (Salvation by His mercy without the deeds of the Law), and Sanctification (Putting away sin, and or following righteous acts by the working of God within the believer):

2 Corinthians 5:21
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

Context:

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. " (2 Corinthians 5:17).

"We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain." (2 Corinthians 6:1).

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you," (2 Corinthians 6:14-17).
Philippians 3:9

"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith"

Context:

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead." (Philippians 3:10-11).

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:14) (cf. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27).

"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).

"(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) " (Philippians 3:18-19).
Jeremiah 23:6
"In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS."

Context:

"Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness. For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right. For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD. Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD." (Jeremiah 23:9-12).

I hope this helps someone today in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Please be well.

With loving kindness to you in Christ,

Sincerely,

~ J.

I really do not ever take long posts like this apart piece-meal, there is so much to examine. And a BIG YES to taking the Bible as a whole...I do that best I can; did you though. You are picking passages which stress living a sanctified life and ignoring the passage in Romans telling us we are credited with righteousness. I was addressing your comment that God would not be able to hug us in heaven b/c we are unclean and I gave the Romans passage. In heaven the sinful nature is/the curse is taken away. We will be both righteous and holy...God CAN hug us on that count, but also He lives within us, within our body-temple while we abide on earth.

Again, while it is true that we need to apply Romans 3:25 to our life for salvation, we also need 1 John 1:7, too. God credits the righteous cleansing blood of Christ to our lives not only in having faith in His blood to declare His righteousness for the remission of past sins (Romans 3:25), but we also need to "walk in the light" as a part of the blood of Jesus Christ cleansing us from all sin, too (1 John 1:7). This is why Scripture needs to be read as a whole and not just with us looking at those verses that we prefer to see that make salvation into something simple in the way we prefer it to be.

You said:
Jesus became flesh and had to become flesh to share in the humanity of His children so He knew how to help them in their needs. For He was tempted in every way yet did not sin.
Hebrews 2:14:
4 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—
Hebrews 4:15:
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

All I have time for tonight!

Again, Scripture has to be read as a whole. When you read these verses, you also have to read and accept James who says,

"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him." (James 1:12).

Well, said. Hebrews 5:9 essentially says that Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.

Note: I think I am going to add that in my OP.

Or you can see if any other members think to add to what you have laid out, which is an excellent foundation to get this thread launched. I really like that you brought up Hebrews 5. Verse 8 says;
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. If Christ learned obedience, how much more, them that obtain eternal salvation by Him. "For a servant cannot be greater than the Master, it is enough that he be like the Master."
This is the Will of God, that we fellowship in this Truth!

Jeremiah 23:6

P.S. Do you ever feel that we are under this same spiritual burden as Jeremiah?, imploring our society to Return! I posted an essay recently "The Righteous Branch", from this very passage, Jeremiah 23:1-6.
It confirms the Word I receive, when a brother is hearing the same thing.
"Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." 1 Co 1:10.
Okay, I'll drop the mic now. Peace.

Direct Verses on the Imputation of Christ's Redemptive Work Via By our Faith in Him
(i.e. God's grace):

Romans 3:21-22
21 "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference"

Romans 3:25-26
25 "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

(Jeremiah 23:9-12).
Our Mediator applies it not us.
When we by faith believe it, it grants us assurance.
Our contribution is our sin.
Our take-away is His Righteousness.

Sorry, I was busy before, and could not reply until now. I really welcome your thoughts in regards to God's Word here (if you feel like by God to do so), brother.

Anyways, thank you for sharing that you did an essay on Jeremiah 23:1-6.

I would be curious to seeing it sometime (if that is something you want to share).

Peace and love in Christ to you and your family.

I said other, because "a person" does not apply anything. Salvation is wholly and completely the sovereign work of God.

I was going to include the Calvinistic option, but I did not want to turn this into a thread on Calvinism.

I just read it. Thank you, and I agree.
Many want to preach just His grace, but there is another side of God's plan of salvation.

We must differentiate between Justification alone and Salvation as a whole. Justification is only about God's Grace through Faith. But coming from a Calvinist understanding, I believe that the entirety of Salvation includes so much more. I believe that those who are justified WILL go on to sanctification, therefore Salvation is both Faith plus works. But again, from Calvinism, those works of sanctification are not our own filthy rags, but rather they are works of God, because it is only through His Sovereign regenerating work that we can do anything whatsoever. "For without me you can do nothing."

I understand what you believe. I just highly disagree with it. It makes God out to be immoral in my opinion.

For if "Unconditional Election & Unconditional Reprobation" is true, then why have a Judgment? It makes no sense if it was GOD who placed them there. It would be like a man who created a robot who is programmed to murder, and then later putting that robot on trial for murder. It makes no sense. The robot was only following its programming. It could not help but to do what it was doing.

It would be like a dog owner who kicks his dog across the room like a football because it poops on the carpet as a part of a condition of the dog being sick. The dog owner knows that this dog cannot control his pooping function, but he simply does not care. So he punishes the animal even if it has no control or say so otherwise. That to me would be cruel. You want me to believe GOD is this way. He is not. Sorry. God is good, and He is holy, righteous, and just.

I do accept having to live a sanctified life.

No offense, but I don't think our understanding on Sanctification is the same. Do you believe that a Christian can temporarily lose their salvation via by committing grievous sin like lying, lusting, hating, etc. (without confessing of it to Jesus)? My guess is that this would be a... "no." (Which for me violates the Parable of the Prodigal Son, and James 5:19-20). But if you believe that a Christian can never lose salvation (via by sin), then the inevitable conclusion is that you believe a Christian can sin and still be saved on some level. If so, then this kind of belief does not truly promote holy living because it is not truly necessary to live holy due to the fact one can just believe in Jesus and not worry about their sin all so much. Many who hold to Belief Alone-ism say that they will not overcome sin (grievous sin) in this life. Hence, Sanctification is merely an illusion and not really real. Sanctification is actually living holy. Hebrews 12:14 says without holiness, no man shall see the Lord.

It is you who cannot zero in on the necessary passages to properly address a question or comment.
Proverbs 15:23:
A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—
and how good is a timely word!

Jesus did not always answer people in the way that they desired.
Besides, everything I said is in line with what His Word says.
He that has ears to hear let him hear.
The key to understanding what I said with His Word is accepting what 1 Timothy 6:3-4 says.

You said:
We do not quote the entire Bible to answer a question; we find the most appropriate response.

Jesus did give us the sermon on the Mount (Which was chapters 5-7 in Matthew). We are told to follow His example (1 John 2:6, 1 Peter 2:21). I did not even come close to His sermon. So if you are going to criticize me for speaking God's Word a lot, then you need to also criticize our Lord who gave us an example to follow.

I created it also in response to what you said, as well.

P.S. Do you ever feel that we are under this same spiritual burden as Jeremiah?

Yes, my soul is grieved many times in the time that we are living in. While I am sure it may have been a lot worse, I sometimes feel like I am almost in the time of Noah right before he entered the Ark. I feel like only super small few truly understand what His Word says these days. Most appear to want to justify grievous sin on some level, and or they desire to turn God's grace into a license for immorality in some way. We truly are in the last days as per 2 Timothy 3:1-9.

Knowing and gnosticism will not save the faithful.

Faith enables us to come to God humbly in sin and confess our sins, God is faithful. God by His hand or angels will apply the blood to the sinner as in the Old Testament. It is not visible but it is there, local to your presence. It makes the heart clean. You can then share the meal remembering the last supper. Eat the bread, drink the grape juice, on a clear conscience.

By faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit you can have Jesus' sacred blood applied to you and even be filled with the blood. Covered locally, that is atonement, filled making your heart clean and just and healed for strength and sonship functions. Some use the term, "soaking".

Jesus taught that if we ask with the right motive or reason, and have no doubt, that we will receive. Then by faith, if we spend the time, we can ask for the blood of the risen Christ, alike saying come Holy Spirit. Trust He wants to come and can, of course that He is and that the blood is sacred, unlimited and powerful. Asking rightly, fully sure, and the blood falls on you, and justifies and cleans you, like King David in Psalm 51. You may be repenting at this time.

Jesus' blood is a life concept, blood nourishes, cleans, warms, clots... it makes you a child of your Father. When it is received as presence and not knowledge, it is effective.

When you heart is clean, you take action without thought for murder, adultery, fornication, theft or slander...
