  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How concerned should Christians be about drug addiction?

Drug interdiction is taking the toys away from misbehaving kids when it's more effective to take the misbehaving kids away from their toys. Much cheaper too. It costs three times as much to interdict a kilo of cocaine or heroin as it does to keep an addict away from a kilo.

If we know exactly what makes some kids misbehave with toys, maybe we can fix that misbehavior. And even better, if we can identify early who has the tendency to misbehave, perhaps we could intervene before it’s a big problem.

Too expensive and much too invasive. We can't deprive people of their freedom because of what we think they might do, in the case of substance abuse.

Well that includes everybody not raised right. even those ones will tend to misbehave if not raised correctly.

No, but people should be made aware of what they could have done to solve their problems.
What they could have done might not help anyone.
What they can do today, as the permanent disciples testify, and show, people,
may help a few at least.
We can't wait for everyone to get religion. We have to enforce the laws.
< shrugs > Already shown that the ones who could do that if they wanted to, don't, because of the money (and who knows, maybe many other reasons also?) , and that's not going to change until Jesus returns.

If your calling is genuine you don't worry about money.
God kept me in the poorhouse for many years. Didn't bother me a bit but my wife couldn't take it, and left the church, then left me.

Maybe we should treat drug addition as more of an illness rather than a crime.

Exactly. That's why addicts should be ordered by the court (committed) into long-term treatment facilities.

I'm for enforcing laws. I'm not sure that forcing people to get help actually works, though.

Professional help would be available but not compulsory, although remaining in a secured facility for recovery would be (it takes at least a year to physically recover from drug addiction).
