  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How concerned should Christians be about drug addiction?

That's the real problem, imo. It's so lucrative to so many that it's become a 'golden goose'.
Hmmm.... good?..... (with hopeful positive expectations here).... WHAT would you do if you had a profitable enterprise, paying you $2000 per month, that if anyone found out the truth about that in particular, would be lost ?

THen consider, for those who make $2000 per minute, what do you think they will do/ have done/ to any threat to their illgained income ?

The Achilles Heel of the drug trade is fully protected by the Constitution, so there's little danger to those profiting by it.

We need to cut off the head of this beast...but where is the head?

I don't think we can get away with that on the internet.

hahaha..... I can't , or won't click on that link yet..... too much spam may be happening....

perhaps you could quote / give a short , few words, summary ? :)

It was (I took it down) a YouTube clip from Blazing Saddles where Mel Brook's character declares, "We gotta protect our phony-baloney jobs."

I have no problem with those working in the drug enforcement agencies, as long as they don't earn more than I do (I'm very successful at what I do). :D

Interdicting more drugs has done little to reduce the availability of drugs to users. They tout great success but all they've done is capture excess drugs that the cartels anticipate will be found. They expect such losses and flood the drug routes with excess drugs, thus the Keystone Kops reference. They've got law enforcement running around in circles, meanwhile they're biggest problem is dealing with the huge amounts of money from the trade.

"We've GOT TO PROTECT our phoney-baloney jobs" repeated three times in the clip..... Yes, too often true, from top to bottom (ceos to janitors) .....

Janitors provide a useful service (it's actually part of my Monday morning 'humble work').

And necessary ! And, btw, they were found to be , at times, much more "Christ-like"/ generous/ than the leaders at the churches they worked at.

We need to identify the problems caused by the drug trade, then make a plan to address them.

(I'm hearing a lot a popcorn being chewed.)
.... I read that congress could have stopped the cheating aspects, and horrendous unjust profits, and the sickness and death (some anyway), caused by the drug industry, legal and illegal, but they were making too much money....

We're actually getting a glimpse of the inner workings of latter-day Babylon, variously called "the world".

Back in the day they used to call alcoholics sinners .... before they discovered that the way some people metabolize sugar made them vulnerable to becoming addicted to alcohol. Genetic understanding probably saved some grief in my immediate family because I was able to warn my sisters, their kids and mine not to start a lot of social drinking because the gene(s) run in the maternal line. My grandmother probably didn’t even have the gene(s) but some of her brothers did . They were never able to stop until it killed them. Were they sinners or were they just a victim of a genetic legacy ? I don’t call drug addicts sinners because I think being demeaned for having a problem doesn’t solve the problem

Given the billions being spent on efforts to address the problem I'd say it is well under control. Your thoughts?
Under control? Are you serious? It's worse than ever. Used to be confined more to the cities, now it's everywhere. Overdoses deaths have become so common no one is surprised anymore.

Alcoholism runs in my family on my mother's side. It killed many family members including my brother, my maternal grandfather, two cousins, and contributed to my sister's death. Thankfully I have not been so affected.

It was meant as provocative sarcasm intended to promote a deeper look at the solutions being proffered.

Sadly what is being done is adding more Keystone Kops to the mix.

That said the whole enterprise is fully under the control of those who have no intention of solving the problems they are commissioned to solve. Too much money and power at stake.

Cynical? You betcha.
