Trump does too have the absolute power to do this, according to Trump.

When leaving the White House for the G7 summit in France, Trump told reporters, "I have the absolute right to do that, but we'll see how it goes." He later explained that he was referring to the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and in a Friday tweet wrote: "For all of the Fake News Reporters that don't have a clue as to what the law is relative to Presidential powers, China, etc., try looking at the Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977. Case closed!"

He has to declare a national emergency and consult Congress. Trump has created the problem.

There's nothing in the Act that says he can't have started the emergency himself - he just has to declare that there is one. Next year, he can re-declare it.

One political party wants our businesses to go overseas and the other wants them to come back
That's inaccurate. One party understands that the economy is global in nature; the other is in thrall to someone with who doesn't understand economics, who instead relies on his beautiful intuition and wants dictatorial powers.

I wonder why that is
It isn't.

I am starting to come to the conclusion that the US president can actually do everything he wants and act like a dictator, he just has to shout "emergency" before every decree.

But Conservatives, that I know don't want to pay for it. So I don't believe they understand how much this will cost them. As far as some liberals, they won't by products. That are from unfair labor.

Pretty much. IMO, other than emergency relief for disasters emergency declarations, including actions that require long term military action, should require the approval of 2/3rds of the legislature within 30 days. That'd be a direct vote by the legislature - no committees or anything. A simple, quick up or down vote. If they can't get 2/3rds, then the legislature is free to try and institute the same thing via the normal procedures.

Nope, which is actually the point the OP was making. So...thanks?

Or it's talking about a President who, after 3 years in office, still has no idea how the office of the Presidency works? :sorry:
tulc(just a thought) :)
Thank God!!! We have had enough years of puppets who dutifully follow Washington's authorized Script.

Trump orders U.S. companies to "start looking for alternatives" to China - CBS News

tulc(wonders if this what "easy to win a tariff war" really looks like?)

Many companies are already looking elsewhere. When your company secrets are systematically stolen and given to indigenous Chinese competitors, when it is easier to put the money into China than it is to get it out that should already be raising alarm bells. The difference here between America and China is that China as a deliberate and state sponsored China First policy which it has been pursuing for 4 decades now while America is just waking up to that fact and in that respect Trumps statement comes quite late in the game and it symptomatic of rather than leading the realities on the ground

The economy of the world is global in nature but forcing companies to relocate from this country to overseas because of silly tax rates isn't accomplishing anything, other than putting more people "willing to work" on Unemployment, Welfare and Food Stamps. Which makes absolutely no sense unless that is the endgame, transferring our wealth to other countries.

(Oops there is that globalist word again).

Good call Trump and most of us are sick and tired of China having their way with us.

I just bought a 100 dollar made in China radio.
I would gladly pay 200 dollars for made in US.

Putting my wallet where my mouth is.
Sometime we don't see much of anymore.
Bunch of complainers--
with no solutions.

Yet when the same people asked if they would pay more in taxes to have everyone covered for healthcare, suddenly that is too much, it is "squeezing" people unfairly. I love how that logic works: willing to pay twice for some item, but unwilling to pay less (a universal system would be cheaper with more taxes, but less cost overall) for everyone.

Anybody can walk into an ER here and get taken care of -- with or without insurance.
