Hi in 2017 I created a book/ebook that can be read here:
An Uncensored Guide to the Christmas Stories

I'm working on an enhanced free ebook (including a memory game) and I was making it show the verses that it refers to... so I was looking up the verses I mentioned...

Twice I wrote this:

"The Messiah would be a descendent of Abraham (Genesis 12:13)"

I looked it up and it doesn't make sense. I looked through a lot of Genesis and can't find anything relevant. Perhaps the verse isn't even in Genesis but is somewhere else? I also tried looking at Genesis 12:1-3...

Thanks!

Wasn't that the promise given to David?

Yes... here is the full collection of them from the genealogies section:

The Messiah would be a descendent of Abraham (Genesis 12:13)
The Messiah would be a descendent of King David (2 Samuel 7:12-16, Psalm 89:3-4, Isaiah 9:7)
The Messiah would be a descendent of the governor Zerubbabel and his father Shealtiel (Haggai 2:23)

You have a typo in the first bible reference

Galatians 3:29 ? That's not a promise to Abraham about the Messiah though. But it's how we now share in thd promisd through Christ.
Thanks!

BTW I found this:
Genesis Chapter 12

i. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham (Galatians 3:8-9).

Genesis Chapter 12

"f. In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed: Not only was Abram promised blessing, but God also promised to make him a blessing, even to the point where all the families of the earth would be blessed in Abram. This amazing promise was fulfilled in the Messiah that came from Abram’s lineage."

So it seems like Genesis 12:3 is the verse though I don't think it quite fits:

"And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed"

Not sure how Jesus fits that but I guess that's what the experts say

So now it is:

"The Messiah would be a descendent of Abraham (Genesis 12:3, 22:18, Acts 3:24-26)"

So now there are 3 verses for it... this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't had originally made the error. It makes me think that maybe an intelligent semi-Christian force is showing its presence.

Then I found Genesis 26:4 but I think I'll skip that.

Hi you need to back up a bit as you are starting at the wrong point. The promise in the garden that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent precedes Abraham and the genealogy is followed from ADam to Abraham which is the seed of promise. Then to Abraham his seed is now carrying another promise and this line is followed to David where the promise is expanded again. The seed is Jesus.

I found it very interesting when it spoke about the fall of nations after they acted badly towards Jerusalem. Thank you

It is about what the two books both have in common - they both mention Abraham, David, Zerubbabel and Shealtiel. Only Luke talks about Adam - and Adam is shown in the genealogies section.

"The Messiah would be a descendent of Abraham (Genesis 12:13)"
what you're looking for is
Genesis 12:1-3 ending with:
"and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

it's probably not such an explicit reference that you're looking for but this is a part of an unfolding prophecy of the Messiah.

Jesus died on the cross and rose again 3 days later in an act that defeated death and sin. Because of this act he allows us to have restored relationship with God through him and this is not just for Israel or the Jews but to all so this is why "all peoples on earth" are blessed through Abraham.

Genesis 12:13 is probably missing a hyphen, not 13 but 1-3.

Yeah it would have been 12:1-3 but only verse 3 is particularly relevant. Acts 3:25-26 refers to this and elaborates a bit. There are also other Bible verses in my ebook that I need to revise.
