Let’s talk about “gun culture.” Gun ownership and the collection of more weapons than needed to hunt or protect from an intruder should not be a hobby or a passion. Gun culture encourages and normalizes taking pleasure in instruments of death. A gun is a tool that has been made into an agent of unhealthy aggression that includes a desire to harm people. They are looking for an excuse to play with their toys. Go over to any conservative website that is less regulated than this one. (Fox News is a good example.) You’ll see gun “enthusiasts” talking about killing other Americans in some fantasy civil war with liberals. You’ll see them telling liberal commenters to “come on over,” because they are armed and ready to use their weapon. These guys love target practice using human forms, love violent movies and video games, love fantasizing about killing. They post photos with their guns to try and look tough. They brag about their home arsenals. They don’t actually care about the constitution, they get off on the power and dominance they feel when they hold a weapon. Sick and disgusting.

Actually, they save many lives without even being used. Other times law abiding citizens use them to save life and limb, while the malefactor is sent on to his reward.
If that were the case, life expectancy in the USA would be higher than in the European Union, due to higher gun ownership.
Let us see: gun ownership in the USA; 12 guns per 100 inhabitants. EU gun ownership; 16 guns per 100 inhabitants.
Life expectancy USA:78.7 years. Life expectancy in the EU: 80.9 years.
If anything, guns are bad for your health.

How does Europe compare with the US on gun ownership?

Couldn't have articulated this better, Miss Sparagmos.

The only thing 'sick and disgusting' is this post. You have simply taken your own opinions, beliefs, and leftist talking points and try to present them as 'facts'. But I am curious: What makes you 'qualified' to speak to 'gun culture'? I have owned firearms since I was 12yo; spent 6 years in the Army and not one single thing you describe is applicable to me or any of the people that I know who also own firearms.

To try and equate guns with EU vs US life expectancy is simply laughable. I would not try to write a paper using such 'deductive reasoning' even in elementary school.

Then you and your friends aren’t part of the gun culture I describe. But I think most people here have observed what I’m talking about, it’s readily seen at gun shows, on social media, on white supremecist websites, and in the mass consumption of violent media and games. Are you saying that people don’t enjoy target practice? That people don’t post portraits taken with weapons? That people don’t say they “love” their guns? Please tell me which thing I listed doesn’t exist.

I think a relatively free society has room for hobbyists of all sorts. But a person engaging in a hobby involving dangerous equipment should be willing to accept responsibility for the risk to others.

Take driving fast vehicles. If you want to drag race, there are drag strips for that hobby. Those are regulated and available so that you can drive as fast as possible without endangering us regular drivers.

There’s rules for everything. Too many gun owners want a free ride.

I agree with that....

WHO wants a free ride? The gangbangers?.....the boys in the 'hood?.....the crips and bloods?....the mafioso types? The responsible gun owner has always paid their way through fess, taxes, licenses and taking responsibility for their actions. You want to talk about the criminal types be my guest, I am with you. But don't lump everyone into the same piece of clay.

I live in the Bible Belt. Lots of non gang banging otherwise law abiding citizens feel entitled to unlimited firearms without licensing, registration, liability or any of those horrible things.

So, you would have some solid citation to back that statement up?....I ask that because that type of info is not generally available from news coverage. Those things are primarily discovered after investigation. From my readings it is uncommon that a person without a criminal history or a history or observed behavior of serious mental illness simply picks up a firearm and starts shooting people. Mass shooting by otherwise 'normal' people are very uncommon.

And so pointless because everyone knows trucks don’t hurt people by themselves!
Not only that but ask that registration and licenses stuff and people will STILL get killed by trucks, SSI what's the point of trying to stop it with laws that take away our freedoms?

Now, how does firearm registration pose such a burden?

Where in the Constitution does it say that the government has the right to demand that we register our firearms? IIRC, what really started the shooting during the Revolutionary war was the British attempting to confiscate the militia's shot and powder and cannon(?).....hmmmm, wonder how they knew where it was?

They wanted to tax everything else; I am sure they would have got around to it eventually....probably would have made them register it and get at least a buggy/wagon license to drive it. Wouldn't want to run down any colonials, now would they?

The Second Amendment speaks of a well regulated militia. Militia members' ownership of their weapons was not intended to be kept secret from the Government.
