Does "practice righteousness" make it any clearer?
I am asking what the Bible says is meant by practicing righteousness. This is not the only thing the Bible says.

For example, our Apostle Paul says >

"Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation" (in Philippians 2:13-16).

This is included in practicing righteousness, I would say. And I notice how this brings us to how we "become" . . . how we be in our character, not only how we behave outwardly.

The Bible goes into more about this; so I am inviting us also to get into more of what God's word says about what is really involved in practicing righteousness . . . since we have guests reading here, who might need some help with this.

So, God bless you, too, to share more of all which God's word gives about practicing righteousness > God bless you to.

The Father is not of this world, but is "set apart" === "holy"
Yes . . . thank you :)

I think of how our Apostle Peter says >

"as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'" (1 Peter 1:14-16)

So, from this scripture I see how living holy is connected with not giving in to lusts. And, instead of being conformed to lusts, we become conformed to Jesus. So, we do not just practice certain behaviors, but in our character we are being conformed to Jesus so we are holy the way Jesus is in love.

Jesus is "gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (in Matthew 11:28-30) But lusts can be dominating and dictatorial and driving in desperation for pleasure and excitement, instead of having us humbly submissive to our Father in His peace > Colossians 3:15. So, lusts are anti-love, then > anti-holy > emotions of lust are not gentle and humble and kind and tenderly caring.

And I think our Apostle Paul gives us clear commands about how to live in holy love >

"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:31-32)

So, practicing righteousness includes "forgiving" "even as God".

"Believers were chosen and called to LIVE holy lives!"
to which you replied
'Yes of course. But don't forget we are commanded go out and spread the Gospel.'

"But don't forget...." , AS IF what we are commanded to do, is somehow different or prevented by "LIVE holy lives!" .....

Give an example if you know one, where we are commanded to go out and spread the Gospel,
and how that relates to your idea of LIVE holy lives ?

Thanks.
Shalom.

Holy means set apart.. the poster to whom you spoke was clear when you understand the meaning of the words used.

We are set apart, Holy to the Lord (for His purpose).. We live our lives in that view..

This doesn't imply that we are perfect. Just that we are no longer vessels for destruction, but vessels set apart for His Will and purpose.

“Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us
in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” (Ephesians 1:4)

“For God saved us and called us to live a holy life.” (2 Timothy 1:9)

“God’s will is for you to be holy … live in holiness and honor …
God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.
So, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is rejecting God.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:3-8)

“God has given us everything we need to live a godly life
... work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen
... It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness
than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life”
(2 Peter 1:3, 1:10, 2:21)

“God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness.
… work at living a holy life, for those who are NOT holy will NOT see the Lord
… Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking.”
(Hebrews 12:10-25)

Believers have been chosen and called to be sanctified (set apart for holiness).
This means they are called to CHOOSE to live holy consecrated lives!
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers CAN live holy lives.

“He chose them to become like his Son (i.e. righteous and holy)” (Romans 8:29)

“… work towards complete holiness because we fear God” (2 Corinthians 7:1)

“… teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives.” (Titus 1:1)

“… throw off your old sinful nature … Put on your new nature,
created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)

“For I want you to understand what really matters,
so that you may live pure and blameless lives” (Philippians 1:10)

“He did this to present her (the church) to himself as a glorious church
without spot or wrinkle or any other blemish.” (Ephesians 5:27)
.
Since there are no degrees to righteousness and holiness you are either righteous and holy or you are not. One single sin destroys both.
You simply cannot be almost holy or almost righteous.

Those who, like you seem to be, tell folks to do something in order to be holy or righteous actually bring down both from their high and lofty place in order to fool them into thinking that if they act a certain way they can be holy and righteous.

When the Scriptures call us to holiness and righteousness they are calling us to look to Christ alone for our holines and righteousness.
He, of God, is made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. 1Cor. 1:30

Being born of God, as a believer, we are made a new creation in Christ. That doesn't mean that the old man, twin or any other, is taken to the hospital of religion to be cured but to the cross to be crucified. That old man is still with us in this body of death and we fight daily with ourselves for control. Gal. 5:16-18 . We fulfill the lust of the flesh when we live by a set of religious rules in order to make us feel holy.

Holy is not how we live but who we are in Christ.

Sin shall not have dominion over us who look to Christ alone. If we are honest when we look at ourselves all we can see is sin. Everything we do is mixed with sin. My best Spirit filled preaching had far too much of me in it.

If you ever get above being a sinner in need of mercy you are a liar and the truth is not in you.

We are sanctified in Christ in the new birth. A new man, which after God, is created in righteousness and true holiness. Eph. 4:24. Still we don't look to that new man for our acceptance with God, we look to Christ.

We do grow in grace and knowledge of Christ but that isn't sanctification. Sanctification is not a process by hitch we co-operate with God to become more holy. It is a new creation in Christ.

Religious rules always have one of two results: either you are robbed of all peace because you can never do quite enough or you become self righteous because you think you can.

And when people become self righteous God has a tendency to take them down a peg... just to prove a point.

Of course, not everyone learns the lesson.....

RE: the "practice righteousness" verses in the NT ...

Those who do this PROVE that they are righteous in God's eyes!

IMO, those who do NOT do this are NOT righteous in God's eyes.
So, are the latter group on their way to heaven?
No, IMO, they are on the broad road (Matthew 7:21).

Therefore, people should NOT make excuses
for why they are NOT practicing righteousness!

Who set you up to judge others? It certainly wasn't Christ or the Apostles. We are never told in the New Testament to examine others. We are told the exact opposite. We are told to examine ourselves whether we are in the faith but never to see if we have sin or are acting holy.

Judgementalism is always the result of religious rules.

That holiness without which no man shall see the Lord is Christ not our own self righteous imagination.

How about evangelists?
Ever hear of the 5-fold ministry (Eph 4:11) ... the leaders of the church,
who are appointed by God for the edification, etc. of the whole church body?

Practicing righteousness ... as per 1 John 3:7-10.

What action do we do that leads to either acceptance into or denial of entry into, heaven?

Belief in our Risen Lord.

That is the one thing we do which attributes to us righteousness or is causal for our eternal damnnation.

This is the foundation of life. Not works. You can avoid sin all your life and end up in hell, because righteousness is based on God's idea of what is right, and that begins, and ends, with accepting the path He set out for us...

If you reject the Messiah, you reject God. If you reject what God set out as a means of reconciliation you reject reconciliation itself and do nothing but build for yourself a tower of Babel which comes to naught no matter your good intentions.

However, if you accept what God deems right and just, then it opens a door in which all other things will necessarily follow - and if they don't follow it proves you never opened the correct door, the one chosen by God.

So instead of pointing to what doesn't matter, why not point out the proper door which leads to the salvation of mankind?

What do you think of Jesus' statement ...

If you do not forgive someone of their sin(s) against you,
Father God will NOT forgive your sin(s).

If Father God does NOT forgive you, are you going to heaven?

Yes, it appears that your view of our new covenant is:
free-grace, grace-only, hyper-grace, easy-believism, etc.
(with NO responsibility, accountability, etc. on the part of the believer)
... all of which are from the very pits of hell.

hahaha

The Lord of this New Covenant says “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts."

That isn't "easy believism" by any stretch of the imagination - IT IS a door that absolutely cannot be opened outside of true belief in the FINISHED work of Christ.

It's the narrow path - the most difficult one.. not the easy one.

Easy is to have faith in what you can see and control, instead of belief in what you haven't seen and cannot control.

Practicing righteousness ... as per 1 John 3:7-10.
You show that you have no understanding of 1John 3: 7-10.

So let's take a look at the passage:

1 John 3:3-11 (KJV) 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
What hope? The hope that when we see Him we shall be like Him. Of course it is speaking of our glorified bodys.

We are certainly told here to not live as others who give no thought to their sin. We are to live as set apart ones but not according to some religious idea of what that means. John goes on to explain what he means.

4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Sin is transgression of the law. Even more James tells us to transgress the law in one point is to transgress it all. 2:10

5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

John isn't talking about Christ not having sin but about us not having sin in Him. Paul puts it this way in Col. 2:10. Ye are complete in Him...

Complete means there is nothing to be added, not your religious works or your own holiness. In Christ we are not just " positionally " with no sin but actually without sin in our new creation. More on that later.

6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.

Does anyone imagine that in this body of death that he can be without sin? So what is John talking about? H goes on to explain.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Christ destroyed the works of the devil in that He not only brought in an everlasting righteousness but put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. If you don't know the Scriptures I am referring to then look them up.

In verse 9 Joln clearly tells us how it is that we do not sin. Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin... How is this possible you may ask. For ( because) His seed remains in him.
Whose seed ? The seed of Christ of course.

And he cannot sin because he is born of God.

John is speaking about our new nature which is the new creation in us. We have a new natural, being born of God, and our old nature which is sin. Sin isn't what we do but what we are. Righteousness isn't what we do but what we are in Christ by a new nature.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

John isn't suggesting that we are manifest before others but unto ourselves. No man has a right to judge us unless he is the Godman Christ Jesus the Lord. We do not answer to preachers, myself included, but to our Lord and Savior.

A man who has sin himself cannot judge another for their sin. We are not called to judge but to love.

So, preachers and teachers are NOT to warn others about their spiritual blindness, etc.?
How about evangelists?
Ever hear of the 5-fold ministry (Eph 4:11) ... the leaders of the church,

Warn yes judge no. Just so you know, I was a preacher for over 25 years. I wasn't called of men but of God to preach. I never sent out a resume or sought to preach anywhere. I didn't do it as a vocation but as a calling to serve Christ by serving His people.

The Lord shut the door and now I wait until He opens it again. I never lived by religious rules but in order to honor Christ my Savior and Lord.

Love is the greatest of virtues. If you preach, preach Christ. Do so in love not in anger or judgemntalism.

So you believe in works salvation. At least that is what your statement clearly shows.

Free grace, absolutely! Rom. 3:24.

Grace only, absolutely! Eph. 2:8

Hyper-grace, not sure what you mean but yes if you mean all of grace.

Easy-believeism, not at all. Man will come to religion; he will come to works righteousness; he will come to the priest or preacher; but he will not come to Christ that he might have life. John 5:39-40.
