Suing someone means you're already defeated.

7 Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded?

Matthew 5:40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

It's such a good point. And that short sentence that helps us get a key part:

Why not rather be wronged?

Boom. What a sentence. That's a central point -- we are not to seek vengeance we suddenly can remember. We rely on God to do Justice, and we are to show mercy to others.

I would think long and hard before I sued an individual. Seems kind of edgy. But what about a godless, soulless corporation that has no heart or soul and lacks anything remotely human?

The passage is saying that disputes between Christians should not be settled in pagan courts, but by the church leadership.

Jesus ministered to the Jews who were not pagan, so SOK's point still holds.

What I find interesting in the context of that verse is 1Cor 6:2 "Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?" He calls them "saints" these who were suing one another. Apparently quite a different standard of sainthood than under Catholicism.

Jesus was speaking to the Jewish community. What has your Mt 5:40 passage to do with SOK's pagan court application? Yours and his are like apples and oranges.

Do you think Catholics don't understand the difference between a canonized saint vs. a general member of the Body of Christ?

We do

I think they misuse the word "saint". There's no such thing as a "canonized saint" in the Bible. Of course they can fabricate terms as they like just like they fabricate doctrine.

As the Bible is a collection of Sacred Scripture rather than exclusively a book of doctrines, we don't believe that all doctrine must adduced from scripture in order to be valid.
