How? Do educated girls suddenly get equal rights and job opportunities? Is she going to work on her tech startup for Google while finishing her thesis on nano-transistors?

She was traded for a cow. If we educate her, she'll probably be able to put that to use identifying various breeds of cattle and their respective values.

Yes, educated girls become empowered with opportunities. If you are uneducated and 14 years old; your experience and lack of education keeps you imprisoned. Think about it - how did you know that you had options? You were given opportunities to learn. A girl is likely to only know her village and worse yet, once married, to only know the man she has been married to you. She has zero opportunity to know anything else without an education. In the western world we actually see these situations as enslavement.

I'm guessing it stopped. Because it became illegal. Just like a lot of Christian religious stuff stopped.

Selling people eventually stopped in the west. We had to burn down a good portion of the south first though in this country, so it wasn't exactly easy.

I'm sure human sex slaves are still being sold in the united states..

There are an estimated 45 million plus slaves in the world today --- more than at any other time in history. In the USA the estimate is 400 thousand plus.

Who are also sold to tribal lords who sell them to human traffickers who smuggle them into 1st world nations as sex workers and cheap labor.

Aside from "opportunities to learn"...does it actually provide any opportunity to change her situation?

Knowledge is nice....but I don't really consider a girl who is more aware of the hopelessness of her situation that much better off than one that isn't.

I do believe in the bible. It was common for men to pay the dad for their wife. I'm not sure why the Christians don't still do that.

Because we decided not to do that anymore. There was no biblical mandate for that to occur.

But not as prosperous and powerful as it is now. And even back then, in the west, women were more involved in the economy than they are now in many of the poorest countries. Not being sold for cows etc. Also, 150 years ago was a period which followed the enlightenment and the industrial revolution, when the west was steaming ahead. Much of the world has caught up, and in most cases they have caught up as a result of empowering women.
Please show exactly how empowering women made us more prosperous than the simply advances that have been made due to the industrial revolution. Please give specific examples how empowering women caused the rest of the world to catch up.

I think it was the industrial revolution that brought the advances and not the empowering of women. I think as society grew and culture changed the empowering of women came from that. As freedom expanded more people saw all people needed more freedom. It was a good thing. But it didn't increase things like you say.
