JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri, February 29, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – This week, the Missouri House overwhelmingly passed what has been called the strongest pro-life bill in America, in the form of legislation that combines almost every pro-life legislative proposal in the current session.

The House voted 117-39 for the omnibus Wednesday, The Kansas City Star reported, after “two days of circuitous, occasionally bizarre, often deeply-personal and impassioned debate.”

House Bill 126 contains the previously introduced ban on aborting babies with detectable heartbeats and requirement for two-parent parental notification, and adds a ban on abortions motivated by a baby’s race, sex, or Down syndrome, as well as “trigger” language that would automatically ban abortion once Roe v. Wade is overturned.

“What is this thing in a woman’s body?” asked Republican state Rep. Mike Moon. “I believe the answer is that it’s a human. I believe when we’re talking about a human life, how barbaric is it to consider snuffing out a human life before it has a chance to breathe on its own?”

The bill now moves on to the state Senate, which Republicans also control 24-10, but where Democrats plan to mount a filibuster in hopes of derailing it. “Oh hell yeah,” Democrat state Sen. Jamilah Nasheed said earlier this month of whether his party would use the tactic.

If House Bill 126 makes it through the Senate, Gov. Mike Parson says he will sign it.

“I’m honored to lead a state with so many people committed to standing up for those without a voice,” the Republican governor declared in a statement. “I applaud the bipartisan efforts of the Missouri House of Representatives for choosing to take a bold stand to protect women’s health and the right to life.”

Wow! It's been a disappointment to see the erosion of protections for live born babies in many places.

Missouri has a pretty high infant mortality rate. Not as bad as Mississippi or Arkansas, but pretty bad, especially in comparison to blue states. Hope they do more to care for infants, children after they are born.
As opposed to killing them outright I would hope so as well.

No, not as opposed to "killing them outright." There's a lot of focus on fetuses, fine. There needs to be more done about the babies who are born. What is Missouri doing about their infant mortality rate?
This always puzzles me. I know it is a talking point for the Left but does not reflect reality.

Doesn’t your church run a pregnancy crisis center, adoptive and foster ministry and assist single moms and low income families after the birth of children?

The below ministries is what your brothers and sisters in Christ do on a daily basis. These are just small samples of what goes on in the local, state, national and international levels:

Just a few examples here:

The above is a grand scale example of after and future care. Others include Catholic charities and Samaritans Purse.

, how barbaric is it to consider snuffing out a human life before it has a chance to breathe on its own?”

Why do we even have to try to make people understand that? Yet, we do.

We do it to the most defenseless humans there is because we can. Because we are some of the worse kinds of demented, cowardly bullies imaginable.

occasionally bizarre,

I agree, it's that and beyond.

Wow, you wrote this long post well after I'd already deleted my posts on account of how I expected you to do precisely what you did. Smh.

I'm not on the left, & this is a total misrepresentation of what I wrote.
Your post addressed infant mortality rates and increased aid to children after they are born. My response was the kid has to be born in the first place.

Abortion terminates a life before it can even exit the womb.

You create a dichotomy that one issue must be addressed before the other should be a concern. It does not have to be a dichotomy. Meaning the charge that those who are Pro Life are really only concerned with the child while in the womb. Aka “pro birth.”

What I posted with the links shows a consistency at least within Christian churches of addressing the issue of unwanted pregnancies and wanted pregnancies before, during and after the birth of the child. This consistency is more prevalent in Roman Catholic, Evangelical and Orthodox churches.

You did mention infant mortality rate. That is most important to discuss. Although more than just mentioning it. The infant mortality rate data for the US is complex and would truly need another thread. I attempted to engage last year on another site the plethora of data from scholarly articles. Unfortunately the facts hurt a lot of feelings and upset preconceived opinions.

I believe it is because we have half our nation under the impression that we are not human beings until we are born. They equate citizenship with becoming part of the human race.

Probably, and what a shame.

Things will get precarious when states start defining 'personhood' after the birth of the child. In the case of NY law they basically put into question the statutes they had for fetal homicide laws.
