I get afraid and obsess over past sins. There have been two occusations where I have confessed to a sin only to found out that it wasn't my fault. I get very afraid of sins I think I may have done, but never did and sins I don't think I did in the past but did.

How will God forgive me if I'm not sure of a potential sin and end up not asking for forgiveness because I'm not sure if I did it or not? What if I think I may have done a sin, but I'm unsure and I go to Hell for not repenting?

The Holy Spirit, and not your conscience, should decide what's sin and prompt repentance (Romans 2:15, John 16:8). In Christ, you're already forgiven (2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 8:1). God bless :).

God knows your sin even if it slips our minds and He knows that you mean well to repent. Don't be too hard on yourself for not remembering everything. Nobody really knows the extent of their own sinfulness to perfectly recollect and confess anyway. Just trust in Christ. His righteousness; not our own.

The beauty of the New Covenant is that we don't need to be beat up by our past. Just seek the Lord with all your Heart; if something needs to be confessed; He will bring it up. The whole premise on the New Testimant as we are free; Free to look forward to make a difference in the kingdom, Trusting in Christ to Save Us. Run in Freedom; run in Grace - Its Freedom; not Bondage. Run this Race of Faith with Jesus; until you run into His presence. He loves you man; don't look back - as far as the east as from the West he has separated our sins from us. You are a son; not a slave. He has Grace, Love, and Will Correct You if you need correcting; He is a loving father.

Repentance is turning away from sins, if you already have done that then you are forgiven.

Also our works will not merit our salvation. Jesus already gave you salvation if you believe that he died for your sins, was buried, and rose on the third day.

If you have confessed and repented you are forgiven, you are just not accepting that.

The Holy Spirit "convicts" a person of sin .... that is makes one mindful that they have sinned ... or warns about a temptation that will lead to sin.

We will always stumble ... possibly even commit the same sin. The once again we fall on our knees and ask for forgiveness. Ask for it, receive it .... and begin again.

It is a life-long process ... we will always struggle. But Jesus goes through our struggles with us.

Once you've confessed, repented ... that sin is forgiven (given to the Lord) and don't take it back.

Luke 23
34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

We will become totally sinless when the Lord returns because we are covered by the blood of Jesus.

God Bless.

Christianity is not based in whole on how well we can repent of sins. We are saved by Grace, God's gift of salvation. The bible says it this way "You have been called to liberty only don't use your liberty as a excuse to sin, but rather in love serve one another". What that is stating is you are not saved by being perfectly right in action, you are not saved by having no sin, rather you are saved by God's offer of salvation. However as a Christian you are right to strive to leave sin behind, for the bible says "let him [or her] who names the name of the LORD depart from iniquity".

9 But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.

Hebrews 12:2
We must never stop looking to Jesus. He is the leader of our faith, and he is the one who makes our faith complete. He suffered death on a cross. But he accepted the shame of the cross as if it were nothing because of the joy he could see waiting for him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne.
